Does anyone make a metal inside door handle for a 92?
Since I've owned this truck , I've busted about 3 or 4 of these cheap crappy plastic drivers side inside door handles. If someone doesn't make one, I'm gonna take a chunk of bar stock and make one. I'm tired of this trash -cuss

I believe the inside handles on the f-series 80-86 trucks are made of metal from the factory. Almost positive on that. Just go to the junk yard and pick one up!;Sweet

80-91 handles are linkage driven. 92-97 are cable actuated. Not sure how they would work.

Handles will bolt up, seen two trucks with that done, and it's what I'm doing next time I take my doors apart.

Why are they breaking? Mine never broke.

Not sure, I'm not that strong. I think once teh first factory one goes and you get into the aftermarket ones those cheap things just break left and right . My buddy at the parts store told me that they never last. It's got one of those till you suck dirt warrantys on it, but Dorman doesn't plan on anyone keeping the vehicles alive long enough to replace teh things. THat's their design stratigy on half their replacement parts

Yes. the 80-86 handles will bolt right on to a 87-97.

The problem is that the cable is most likely stretched and to get more throw out of it you have to pull harder on the handle, then POW you have a broken handle. The problem with bolting a metal handle on, is the next week link is the door structure. You will tear it next. I reccomend replacing the cable with a new on or converting to a old mechanical linkage

I've seen and heard the 80-86 metal handles are direct bolt ins, I've seen a truck on ebay a long time ago, he put both the old 80-86 metal door handles, and the chrome metal window cranks, sure made it classy :D

Brad beat me to it.LOL A friend of mine was onto this over 10 years ago. While you're getting the metal handle, get the old school linkage that goes with it.:sly

Looks like I'll be in good shape. I checked the online catalog for advance and their new replacements for the early ones are metal, so I'm grabbing one, well I suppose I should replace the set LOL
THanks
