Looks like I'll be in good shape. I checked the online catalog for advance and their new replacements for the early ones are metal, so I'm grabbing one, well I suppose I should replace the set LOL
THanks

check the cables...whats happens is,,,the cables DONT stretch..............the "fork" that moves the pin, just inside where the handle is,spreads over a period of time...why?? because ford in their infinite wisdummmm, didnt put any lube on that pivot point!!!! hence the spreading of the fork from binding!! you can squeeze the "fork" back together..........also..the spot where the cable hooks behind the fork, will wear also....SOMETIMES, the ball will break off the end of the cable also....real fun!!!!! and where this whole assm bolts into the door..likes to break!!!! not one of fords better ideas!!!

I just rebent the fork that holds the cable in place and fixed my door. Now to replace the hinge bushings so the wifey will stop jerking on the handle so hard and bending.
It looks like switching to the older latch mechanism is pretty straightforward. That will be my long term solution.
