Now the damn drivers door hold/open spring busted off...where the F do I get one of those and HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO INSTALL?
Please don't tell me the door must come completely off...and I have to deal with the wire bundle running between the jamb and door.

Welcome to hell... Both of my front doors broke just like that.... I bought new hinges and they are a ***** to install. You will need to support the door somehow. Mark the old hinge and try to install the new one in the same location. You will be trying to "find" two locations where it will seat correctly. Look at how the door lines up with the fender and cab. Hopefully the nuts in the jam wont drop down because they lost the retaining clips..... I replaced my drivers side hinge but never did replace the wifeys side heinge... I don't use that door. She does....

I lost mine a while back, eff those things, my truck is so ass-high to begin with that gravity hods them doors open for me Still tho, that setup is better than GM's with the actual coil springs, ever had one of those shoot out and nearly take a chunk off your face along for the ride?

Do I need the whole hinge or just the leaf spring thingy?

the leaf springy-thing has a rubber pad under it that is actually what pushes on the door, and the whole thing is riveted to the hinge bracket itself - I'd say probably new hinge brackets, at least that part that bolts to the cab pillars.

They always break off. Only a matter of time. Both my trucks have the problem and I didn't bother with it.

The bracket that bolts to the cab pillar is identical from one side of the truck to another but the bracket on the door side isn't.

What you can do is look in wrecking yards for any ford F series or ranger on the PASSENGER side since that door rarely gets used as often, the springs often last much longer. With some imagination you can drill the hinge pin out, and adapt a passenger side upper door bracket (the one that bolts to the cab pillar with 3 bolts) to have it swinging like new again. Adjusting the doors is such a pain int the ass that I chose not to bother though. Sadly it just a bad design plain and simple so it will break again some day.

Just double checked. The ranger has the spring loaded bracket on the lower mount where the F series is on the upper mount but they do appear to be identical across the two vehicles.

Gee thanks mel.... Now you tell me the eay way to do it..... Well... I'm not going to pull the front clip off.... Maybe a trip to a GOOD body shop is on the list of future things to do...

I had my truck slip into reverse and wipe out my drivers door

My first road test since 2007, I just laughed, So I needed a door

I had one from a 1986 it fit just fine.

I had to use my original hinges, and what made it easy was the
hinge pins I repaired and replaced before, so about 20 seconds
and the door is off/on no problem.

I did have to sledge hammer the hinges to make the door close properly again

The life of these hinges/springs is in how often one oils those little notched roller thingies.

If your door starts sort of hanging and then "POP"s loose when closing, that little wheel has frozen and is no longer rolling with the motion of the door.

Let is go too long and the spring then snaps.

Obviously I'm one to lube the hinges and rollers > 22 years and thousands and thousands of door opening and closings before it broke.

SOB > I can put my finger on the bolt but no way to get a wrench on it unless the damn doors off!

How did you address the big wiring harness running through the door jamb?
