Now this is strange.

After getting everything all together and firing it up, I added 3 quarts of atf (still 1 low), backed out of the drive to go get another quart and about a block and a half away a new noise/vibration started. Different from the flywheel vibration, this one doesn't so much vibrate as simply make a noise similar to something making contact with a body panel or even the drone of an exhaust leak.

I stuck my head underneath to see if it was obvious, but it wasnt' So I went to buy a quart of atf and when I got home I rolled underneath on my creeper and listened for the noise. It seems to be coming from the middle of the transmission and makes the most noise right through the pan.

I went ahead and drove out to pick up the travel trailer because I am probably lacking good judgement by now and by the time I got back home it now has a bad shudder when taking off from a stop. It doesn't shudder while moving only when accelerating from a stop or almost stop.

Now what?

Man if I were you, I'd get that C6 out of there and put something in there cool enough to be behind that neat truck you have.... maybe a ZF5...or 6. Even a T19 would be better...or a built E4ODOA.

oh yeah you were gonna swap in a T19 weren't you? though i dont know what could be going on with your C6

A c6 is the toughest auto made for these ,If done right they will last a long time. If it rebuilt make em fix it.

I must have been draming about this last night, but it occurred to me that my external filter hasn't been replaced since just before the rebuild which was 3k+ miles ago. If that filter was plugged and starving the trans, would that cause the above symptoms?

I agree the things a C6 will survive are amazing... but they are really inefficient and chew up a lot of power so perhaps not cool enough for Barney's truck. Definitely not if it doesn't work right. C6 is a good trans though..very very good. Still used extensively by some racing types as evidenced by the amount of shift kits and such for them.

Yep, hard to beat a C6....I have a diesel version and a smallblock version tucked away for safe keeping....Tough as old hell and cheap to rebuild....Like you ever need to rebuild one anyways ....I'm keeping the smallblock C6 incase my 357W twin-turbo 94 Ranger starts puking C4's...Got 5 C4's stashed away too for "spares"....

Sounds like a shudder I've had before, does it feel sluggish to pull away like it's not jumping down to 1st gear when you stop? The C4 in my 63 Mercury does that once and a while for some unknown reason.

Ok, here's the skinny. Strange sound/vibration is still undiagnosed but it sounds like something rubbing the body. I hope it is.

The shimmy is a direct result of my ******** forgetting to tighten the bolts that hold the carrier bearing to the body. 1 fell out and the other was about 3 threads away.

Ah....Easy fix, been there, done worse than that......Bolted up a 900 Mercedes to a 6 speed Allison auto, started it up and heard a ticking noise - then it hit me - forgot to put the bolts in the flexplate/torque converter.

I drove the Moosestang for 3 or 4 months having not bolted the trans to the crossmember. Didn't seem to make a difference when I finally got around to it.
