The water pump temp probe location tends to run cooler than the back of the head, which is the best place for a maximum reading.

Well, after re-thinking that statement, I may be wrong. I've never put a probe there, so I have no actual experience. The fact that the water has gone all the way through the engine at that point is a plus, but there is cooler water entering from the heater core in the winter, there is cooler air hitting it's external surfaces, and the fact that the factory senders for temp are located right up front where the coolest water from the radiator is coming makes me want to think opposite the Ford engineers. LOL The IH engineers put the GPC on the 6.9 all the way in the back. I trust them more. ;p
