Idi vs power stroke oil coolers

can anyone enlighten me if there is any similarities. My buddies powerstroke just blew a rod and he has a brand new oil cooler on it. I was thinking of taking the cooler before he scraps it but wondering if the heads or even more importantly the bundle would swap over

people have said that the tube will work after you lathe it down.
not really worth it, unless you have a 7.3 PSD.
heads do not fit an idi

I don't remember with the first gen 7.3 PSD, but on the second gen, I do know that they are different. I think the IDI tube is shorter than the PSD. It's close enough that they will interchange, but on the '99 I had experience with, we put one from an IDI on the engine using the PSD heads. It kept getting oil in the coolant until we reinstalled the PSD tube.

If you can get your hands on the motor cheaply, do it. At least around here, powerstroke parts are in demand. An engine with a thrown rod still has plenty of usable/sellable parts - heads, injectors, possibly 7 pistons/rods, etc.

You might even just sell it complete to someone who wants parts off it.

If I remember correctly the IDIT oil cooler is similar in tubes to the psd one, can anyone confirm this?

I need to do my cooler soon so I might grab it and compare all the pieces.

One thing I know for sure is that the block heater goes into the rear OC casting. I had the differences in the two, but lost it on a puter crash.

I've heard the tube is the same. Maybe that is between OBS and IDI.
Only one way to know. Lol

I can verify that the o ring kit for the tube is the same part number for both, so it would fit in the heads, but I don't know about the length
