It's been a while since I posted. Guess ye' olde 1984 6.9 just doesn't cause any trouble! It starts on a dime in the dead of winter, it purrs like a kitten when idling and generally is the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. (of course we'll all forget that debacle on the the first road trip to Idaho, fully attributable to my ignorance about diesels at the time). The 2nd Gen 7.3l Excursion is also a ridiculously reliable vehicle and I use it daily. Picked up a 1983 300SD OM617 (in close to showroom condition) for the missus this summer and we just couldn't be happier as an all diesel family now. The SD going to get a WVO conversion here before too long too. Just thought I'd stop by and say hey.
