Only after counting turns from lock to lock and turning the steering wheel exactly half that number of turns back towards the center. Otherwise the box will not be in the "high spot" on the worm which is what it's designed to do when going straight ahead.
Amen. And you need to take the steering box arm loose from the tie rods to check this correctly. You do not want the steering stops affecting your turn count.
If someone took the steering wheel off, and put it back on wrong, and then your alignment guy "straightens" the steering wheel with the tie rod ends, it will be off. That is the wrong way to do it.
