Before I climb under the truck and mount this thing, I wanted to find out if it could be mounted up higher. I would like to put it where the old water separator is disconnected at. Seems like I've read in other threads that some mounted theirs in the engine compartment.

I found a block off plate at checker for a big block chevy, is this what I need to take place of my factory pump? Thanks.

Yes on the block off plate. I mounted my pump in the engine compartment, but I'm rethinking that since there have been some failures from making it pull the fuel that far. Mounting it lower may help keep it cooler/live longer by having it push the fuel.

They should be mounted low and close to the tank. That's the Holley recommendation. Do whatever you want, but that's the best performance guarantee. It's designed to push, not pull. I'd go with the Carrier if you want it under the hood. They have their own issues though.

No matter what pump you use, they like to push fuel....not pull it. I would mount it as close the the fuel selector valve as you can. It is located on the driver's side frame rail. Mounting it under the hood is not a great idea. I think you will loose efficiency, pressure, and pump life.

Yup, the BBC block off plate will work. You'll have to get creative to bypass the fuel inlet/outlet where the old lift pump used to be. Are you using an oil pressure safely switch? I'd recommend it. If you (God forbid) get into an accident, you don't want that Holley pumping diesel all over the place.

Good point on the oil pressure switch Heath, I'll get that sorted out before I tear into this.

I'll go ahead and mount the pump down near the tank.

What do you guys use for sealer on these brass fittings? Will teflon tape work? I was kinda thinking no but not sure.

Better to use the liquid pipe thread sealer on fuel lines. you don't want little chunks of teflon tape finding their way through your fuel system.

You for sure want that holley down low preferably below the fuel level, and you want some kind of pre filter before the thing as well. doesn't have to be super fancy, just enough to protect the pump. You can use a large disposable inline filter and plumb in a gate valve on either side to shut the fuel off to keep from taking a shower when you have to change the thing

i have used the liquid pipe sealer (liquid teflon tape) and the fuel just ate it up in a few seconds, it leaked bad bad. and i was going to ask about putting it after the fuel selector as well, so it will work there with no problems? im going to install an electric fuel pump on my trk also, so im curious as well. will it work there and pump wmo? i run wmo a lot through mine and drive out of state as well. now on the oil pressure switch thing, great idea but just remember, you need fuel pressure to start engine, so you will have to put it on a relay and have it working when the starter is turning as well.

Use 518 gasket eliminator on the fittings, never teflon tape, and I dont care if someone says they used it and its fine. Until you have seen it destroy a fuel system you dont know what a mess it can make. Aviation permatex also works well.
Also make sure the motor vent hole in the holley is out of the water spray, it will corrode the seal surface in short order.
