I hope that isn't silicone. Silicone makes acid as it cures and it will rot out in no time. Regular seam sealer is available from Napa in a caulk tube. Look that tube over carefully and make sure it's not silicone. If it is, I wouldn't leave it that way very long. It will do more harm than good.

I read every word on the tube and also checked their website. It doesn't say silicone anywhere. It says "Advanced Polymer", whatever that means. Everything else on their site appears to say if it's silicone or acrylic or a combination. Makes me think it's not silicone. It doesn't feel/behave like a silicone caulk. It is more like an adhesive.

Hmmmm. I may have to reach out to them and ask.

Looks like it's a silicone blend.

Second ingredient is a precursor for silicone. It reacts with water typically and generates acid.

I contacted DAP to inquire about it. I will post when I hear back. It looks as though there are 2 types of silicone. One is an acid cure and would cause corrosion and one is a neutral cure which does not. The acid cure releases acetic acid. The neutral cure releases alcohol and ammonia. On the DAP website it says that it is recommended for metals, so I would't think that it would cause rust.

Regardless of what they say I may pick up a tube of seam sealer.

I received an email back from DAP. This is what they said:

Thank you for your inquiry.

I notice steel isn't in that list.

I followed up with a question specifically about steel:

Good morning,
The entire line of 3.0 sealants can be used on steel or stainless steel and does not contribute to the growth of rust.
