High rpms

I'm wondering how high of rmps is to high? I'm about to make a 3 hour trip and don't wanna hurt my engine..

Around 70-75 I push 27-2900rmps is that to high for long periods of time?

I'm not sure of rear gear size but I have a zf5 in a cc dually

The governor spring inside the injection pump won't let the engines over-speed themselves. You can run your engine full throttle, all day long, all year long if you want and it won't hurt a single thing.

You could run your engine off the governer all day long if you wanted too. It will not hurt the engine one bit. I crank those rpm's often and keeps on kicking strong.

It's "International Red" from Tractor Supply. I thought it a very fitting color, considering who made the engine.

Every IH engine Ive ever seen has been blue (when not in a Ford at least) but those have mostly been busses so who knows.

Youve got a LONG way to go before you get near bouncing off the governer unless you have an IH bus or utility pump in which case you would have already found teh governer before 2900 as those things usually top out around 2800 with a lower torque peak
Chances are in a crew cab, you have a 4.10 rear end, but look at the door tag in your truck for the axle code, then look in the partsd bin section at the beginning of this section and dig around a little and you will find the list of axle codes to figure out what diff ratio you have and if its a posi or not

I'm pretty sure it's a posi rear it will spin both sides on the rear if I let he clutch out to fast but I guess that don't mean for sure... Yea it's a truck motor so the gov is around 3300 right? So If I wanted to I could ride at 85 mph at 3300 all day and be fine? That's alsome didn't know that!

Yep. The only thing you're going to hurt is your wallet (fuel bill).

We run our tractors at the governor for 12 hours straight when we have a lot of ground to cover. That's how these machines were made to run....

I lack a working tach, or a speedo for that matter... I simply apply power until the truck quits pulling forward, or until I begin to blow the doors off of nearby traffic.

As stated above, the worst you'll experience is exceptional fuel consumption. They get thirsty when worked hard.

These are tuff built engines able to handle being pushed to the red line all day long without fear of breaking them but... You need to know the condition of you r engine before doing this. The rpm your talking about is not going to harm anything at all. An easy way to figure out what gears you have is clean off the metal tag hanging off the differancial cover. It will tell you 3.55 or 4.10 on it.
