Help removing hub

I noticed gear oil coming out the brakes so now I am attempting to replace the seals.

Sterling 10.25

I've managed to get as far as taking the hub nut off. I can't seem to get the hub to come off. I'm using a 3 arm puller hooked onto 3 lug nuts and pushing against the axle tube. It seems like it should slide right off, but Im using so much force I'm nervous to crank it anymore.

Am I missing a step? Should I pull out the outer bearing somehow? Is it just stuck? The hub nut is off shouldn't it come off?

Thanks for any help my truck is on a jack until I figure this one out.

Been awhile so my memory is off.
Mine had the ratcheting hub nut. But I wanna say there's still the washer and inner nut.

If you can see the bearing race there is no more to remove, it should not be this hard to remove. Pics?

yeah, I think we need to see pics, you should not be able to see the axle tube unless the axle shaft and hub was off.

You might be pressing against the hub itself...

I can't tell...

Do you have emergency brake engaged?

You have to back off the brake linings with the adjusting star wheel to clear the edge of the drum. The drum edge will have a raised part where it's not worn.

If you have removed the axle and hub nut and can see the bearing race, the hub and drum should slide off. Even if there is a serious lip from brake wear inside the drum, it will wiggle off after a while, without a puller. Just in case, have you adjusted the brakes down as far as possible?

If the hub is stuck, it may be because the bearing has spun and is stuck on the axle housing. That is bad. That may also be why you had a leak.

We could go on all day s'posing what is wrong, but this really needs visual aids. Take pictures and post them here for more accurate help.

If sterling rear....drum is independant of the hub...no pressed in studs.

Remove drum by backing off adjuster LOTS ...then slide over hub and studs. It could possibly be rust fused/welded to hub face and may require judicious application of a weighted instrument in a repeated manner. Beat w hammer

Once drum is off hub should slide off unless race of the outer bearing has spun and galled on spindle. This may require judicious use of well for me...a torch ..others dunno.

If not galled the seal may cause drag but w out drum it should come off simple enough.

Please let us knkw what all you have done and if drum.is offf to determine course of action.

His sig truck came with D70, I was commenting on the chance that it had not been changed in 30 years. Silly me.

The ebrake is off. I can freely spin the hub
Although last week barbed wire stuck in my tire and wrapped around the axle pulling my brake line and ebrake. I adjusted the parking brake and all seemed well.

I have had the seal get severely stuck before. Take a small pick and pull the outer bearing out. Then wiggle the hell out of the hub.

I am pulling on the lug nuts and pushing on the tube the paper towel is in.

How do I remove the bearing with a pick without damaging it.

You should be able to use the hub like a slide hammer. Put a towel or box on the ground so the bearing falls into that instead of dirt.
