Head gasket question

i know EXACTLY where i stop. after this head job and an IC in the spring. after that there is "nothing" to "do" as far as performance goes on the engine.. IMO this truck is not worth building the engine up. i would much rather buy a newer truck and build that up. i'm just replacing things that need it.

Well i dove into it today. coolant drained, alt off, fuel filter and head off, that big aluminum bracket that holds the vac pump, a/c compressor, p-steering pump off, IP and injectors out, glow plugs out. a couple of the glow plugs seem to have a little "erosion" on them. all but one of the injectors on the passenger side had wet tips, all on drivers side were nice and dry. is something wrong with those three injectors? engine runs to smooth it seems to have 3 bad injectors. i just get a little puff of white smoke in cold start, other than that nothing. batteries are out, turbo was out/off in probly 10 minutes. it was almost like i have done that recently . engine wiring harness is pulled of to the side. trans and engine oil dipsticks are out. valve covers are off.

Won't be able to work on it tomorrow, but i have all day Tuesday and Wednesday. so plan for Tuesday is to get the intake manifold and valley pan off. the pull the rocker are arms off and push rods out. gotta remember to pull my EGT probe out of the manifold and pull my water temp probe out of the head.

overall it was a successful day.

i was telling my dad that everything i have done on the truck, IP/injectors, glow plugs, turbo, valve cover gaskets, has prepped me for this task. it would suck to have to learn how to do all this stuff just to get to the heads.

i thought i read somewhere that the exhaust manifold bolts were TTY. is this true? if so what bolts do i need to buy?

the green o-ring in the picture, can that be gotten any other way other than buying a new IP? mine has a chunk missing.

uhggg take number 2, e-fuel sounds nice. i am also debating getting a new glow plug controller and ditching my manual push button. it would be REALLY nice to have a fully functioning factory set-up.
