Well the GV is great. But I think I still need lower rpms. I've done the math and I'm going to drop from 4.10's to 3.78's while doing the limited slips - that way I'm just out the labor.

When that's done I'm planning on upgrading the rear belts to 3-points, and replacing the carpets and headboard. Might convert the front to buckets with a console too - that way it'll be easier to get to the kids in the back, etc.

In my case $800.00 cheaper than a nv4500 or xf5...

That and I have a recently rebuilt BW T19 in it so it would've been a waste to swap it. It rocks, but could benefit from some taller gears for mpg, ride and noise issues...

here's a nice struck with a Banks and a GV for the price of a GV alone:

Also if you come across a GV unit for cheap get it because they're all basically identical except for the connectors. Personally I would've rather had an older GV with no solid state brain to die.

Cool, I would love to have a gear vendors, but dang those things are expensive.

If you don't want to monkey with all those controls, throw them out the window and rig switch to your shift lever and run it through a relay and run that down to the little round shift solenoid on the back of the GV and you'll have a shift setup just like all the other laycock od units runing around on the back of Volvo M46 transmissions. you just have to pay a bit more attention to what you're doing, but a lot less to go wrong.

Supposedly all the brain does is make sure I'm not in 4x4, turns the GV off when I drop below 20mph and something else I'm forgetting. The main thing I want to avoid is being dead in the water if the brain dies.

Thats the best part of owning a GV aux trans setup. When and if they break you go back to what you had to start with. If its an E4OD then thats all you have. If its a 4 or 5 speed manual then thats all you have. They wont leave you dead on the road like a U.S. Gear will. They break and thats where you sit... But they are a very good aux trans like the GV is....

Then that's good! I still have some questions for the GV folks and the sales folks are awesome at coming to the phone and giving support. Very happy with my GV.

I've broken a GV right at where the input shaft jogs around for the oil pump. GV was more than happy to sell a rebuilt unit for $350-cuss

Delivery truck? Some people love to tear up the boss's stuff. Manky I think I'd just drop down to 3.55s because the 3.73s won't make much difference in your RPM from the 4.10s and you'll still have plenty for moderate towing with 3.55s especially with all those gear choices.. Are you planning on a turbo or no? In my experience a turbo 6.9 pulls better with 3.55s than a N/A with 4.10s.

For new matched set gears from a reputable vendor like Yukon - there is nothing taller available for me than 3.78's. I'd love it if someone could track down some 3.55's for me - but they simply are no longer made. I have a 70 rear and a 50u front. I'm having limited slips put in and while they're in there they can just add the gear sets for basically cost of the parts. Hadn't planned on doing the gears - but hey 200+ rpm less works for me for a few hundred bucks. Should quiet down a bit more as I'm getting some high speed whine from the diffs now. Seriously find me matched 3.55's from a reputable vendor for my rig and I'll buy you a case of beer.

The main thing the brain does is cut the unit off before the drop in hydraulic presure caused by reduced drive shaft RPM's allows the clutches to slip causing the thing to self destruct. You can certainly bypass it if you're **** retentive enough to NEVER forget a single time to kick it out when you drop below 17 MPH or so. I don't trust myself that much.

DITTO,..

Once I forgot that I had it in 4x4 and let the GV kick in automatically,..The brain box did its thing and disengage the GV before it kicked in but for a split second it felt like the truck jumped a foot off the ground and a big KLUNK!
I quickly kicked it in neutral coasted to the side of the row, checked everything, put it in drive and drove off,.

Took a week to get the pucker marks out of my underwear,...
