Time for the same old question that everyone else always asks... What she worth?
I'm having to make some big financial choices at a real bad time, and my old man has offered to sell his truck to make sure we keep a roof over our heads. But enough of my problems...

1990 F350 CCLB 4X4
Story behind this old bird is it started its life off as a 460 gasser, and I converted it to diesel myself. Tanks, fuel lines, ect. All lights and gauges work, somwtimes the oil pressure gauge wigs out, so we installed a pillar gauge cluster with water temp, oil pressure and battery voltage. Has a zf5-42 in er and 3:55 geared axles, limited slip rear.

Engine is of unknown miles, I think it had 130k on it when we installed it. Engine is a 1988 7.3, it used to have a first gen banks on it, but my dad didn't want to go turbo, so its now a stock runner.

Supposedly the pump and injectors were replaced at 100k, but I have no proof other than when we bought the engine he showed us a video of him putting them in.

When I had the engine out I fully scrubbed it down, painted it and resealed the pan, valve covers, exhaust manifold, and valley pan. Got a new water pump and damper at the same time. Had both drivelines fully rebuilt at the time of the engine replacement. Also a 3 core aluminum champion radiator.

I rebuilt the Dana 60 in it maybe 10 years ago back when it was still a gasser. New king pins, bushings, all nrew bearings, pinion seal, the whole nine yards. Rotors and pads were done at that time. We also just installed a brand new class 4 hitch on it.

Mechanically, she rock solid. Occasionally the wipers don't work on intermittent, I put a new switch and intermittent module in it, but it only kind of fixed it. AC runs, and she ice cold.

Now for the bad...
She a lil dinged up. Used to be an apple tree farm truck, and they used er and abused er haaaarrrrd. Frame is straight, all panels line up, but there's small dents here and there, and paint peeling, someone did a three stage paint on part of it, and the clear coat is peeling and its down to metal in certain areas. Luckily we don't salt the roads so there's no pin holes or cancer rust anywhere.

Anyways, what do y'all think for a ready to go truck? Have some pictures...

Dang good luck man. As a rough ballpark I would expect to see this on CL listed probably in the 4-9k range west of the cascades, between pdx/sea. Not sure about other platforms like marketplace or parked-with-for-sale-sign. of course many other factors too

At least 6K now in California. Probably more. 4WD. ZF-5, crew cab - Pretty much the most desirable truck around here, only thing missing is the turbo. It's got the tailgate. What's the interior look like? Start high and work your way down. The thing that pops in my mind is an old saying I heard: Not everyone likes the Grateful Dead... But the people who like the Grateful Dead - really like the Grateful Dead. Same can be said of IDIs.

Interior is alright. Factory linoleum floor, ford classic small tear near the shift lever, front seat has a seat cover on it, never bothered taking it off. Rear seat in great shape of course. Rest of interior shows its age, sun fade, ect.
Forgot to mention he replaced all the window seals too

It's a fine rig, I'm gonna say $6-8K according to how quick you want to sell it. That's the dirty dirty south price at least.

An HEY, grey skies are gonna clear up, put on a happy face, Senor @Nero !!!

I appreciate you, I'm doing my best to remain optimistic. Some days it's fleeting though.

The problem, for many states/regions that do emissions tests, is that they will see the VIN and say it's gas, and it'll fail emissions due to being diesel. If it was a 1990 IDI from the factory, no emissions testing would be needed in California. 1997 is when they started doing diesel emission tests, gas vehicles started in 1975 so it would fail.

Arizona is WAY MORE STRICT than California for testing, as far as the two places that have testing, Phoenix and Tucson: https://www.sundevilauto.com/what-are-arizonas-smog-laws/

Does Your Vehicle Need an Emissions Test?

Vehicles that are required to have an emissions test include the following:
  • Vehicle owners that live, work, or go to school in Phoenix or Tucson must pass an emissions test every two years for gas-powered vehicles under 8500 pounds and produced after 1981.
  • Yearly testing is mandatory for all vehicles:
  • Produced from 1967 to 1980
  • All vehicles over 8500 pounds
  • All diesel vehicles produced since 1967
  • Traction control vehicles or 4×4 models that weigh less than 8500 pounds, produced from 1981 to 1995

Good thing we had the title updated to reflect that it is a Diesel and emissions exempt, because back when she was a 460 we had to DEQ it. Not anymore.

That's my opinion!!!

In Arkansas, you have personal property taxes on vehicles. So you have to take the old title and separate bill of sale (need both) to the tax assessor office and have them enter the info. The VIN is mostly what they go by for the details, unless it's something unusual like a pre-1981 VIN (like my 1958 cargo trailer and 64 VW) where they can manually type stuff in. You go around the corner within the courthouse to the tax collector and have them scan it into their system and sign off on the assessment. Then you go to the dept of revenue (that's who does drivers licenses and vehicle registrations) to apply for title/register it. No smog or inspections (they got rid of inspections in the 1990s).

The point being, the title might get redone as gas in another state, based on the VIN number for anything 1981+ since they probably pull data from the NHTSA database.

I've wondered if I should do something like this on/about Bessie after I converted her to 4x4 and installed that Dana 60 King pin axle & BG 1356????
I know that per my vehicle insurance companies, in the past, my rigs that are 4x4 seem to cost more than regular drive vehicles.

And to gripe about something else this morning besides that Buggs Bunny hid all my Easter Eggs so well that I can't find or see them..........

Well our yearly Auto Insurance recently went up a LOT!!!!! NO TICKETS!!!! No Accidents!! NO NOTHING!!! Me & Carol been good little Girl & Boy!!!
And our HOME-OWNERS Insurance jumped over $1200/yr......& I haven't even added my/our new 40x64 shop onto the policy yet!!!!
Grrrrrr....Gripe, Gripe, Gripe......o_Oo_O-Flame Thr-Flame Thr

I've heard that this is happening a lot in a lot of different places. One guess is that it just plain costs more to replace a lost home. Another (only opinion here) is that the only bigger crooks than insurance companies is the government. There HAS to be a connection between the two somewhere.
