I drive 65-70 max.
If you are towing something heavy, you shouldn't be going any faster.... and if you aren't towing, the handling sucks on these trucks.
I don't feel these trucks were designed to safely drive over 75mph, but thats just me.

Thats kinda what I was thinking too. Some of our trucks were designed in the days of 55mph cruising.

I just dont like the sound of driving over 70-75mph. Air whistling through the cab, rocks are getting thrown sounding like stuff is falling off...rough ride...ect.

When I leave to Texas its going to be 55-65mph...and slower depending on how much snow I hit.

The last time I drove in Houston in a rain storm pulling a 35 Ft. 5er looking for US59 doin 55, seems like all them fools had to test there horn's out. Some sounded pretty sweet as they passed me by rather quickly.

my 86 reg cab is a twin of yours. with a tight front suspension it will do 80 no prob. I did two round trips from kali to TX in the middle of winter and lived to tell about it. as far as wind noise, I'm already deaf in that range from years of driving with the window down.

Actually both my truck tend to smooth out right around the 80 MPH mark and only get smoother after that. Almost eary. Wind noise is horrible, but they track smooth and strait until I loose my nearve and back off. Or until I look down and realize OOPS, too fast.

The F150 needs to be coaxed to get that high, but the diesel will take off on you if you aren't paying attention. Bit high strung.

However I have something not right with one of my wheels. Suspect a bent rim on the back that causes a shake right around 82MPH. Due for a rotation so I'll ask them to take a look and bring a spare rim just in case.

When I was younger (and somewhat inebriated) I remember getting pulled over by the police.....
The discussion went something like this:
"Son, do you know how fast you were driving?"
"R"
(I than began to laugh hysterically)

Apparently police have very little to no sense of humor.

i drive 65 on the highway sometimes 60. im always getting passed. i dont care if i have to stop the truck i know i can plus i save tons on gas.

I tend to drive about 55 mph, any faster and the engine noise is just unbelievable. I know there is a pretty big difference fuel wise going from 55 - 65, about 4mpg difference in my truck. So i drive slower, and save gas...

I do 85% percent of my driving on county blacktops (55MPH limit) It burns more fuel at 70.
But I rarely see cops so occasionally I run 70-75 if I'm late or in a hurry.
Friday I opened her up on the way home, full throttle for 3 miles in 5th got me to just over 100MPH, according to my buddy following me in his yota.

So yesterday (monday) I'm on my way to school. I was cruisin about 62-63 (or so I thought) as I'm coming down a small hill, notice I'm meeting a cop- wait, he's pulling over and his lights are on- S***!!! He clocked me doin 69 in a 55.
I got away with a warning (thank god, I would've lost my license if I got a ticket) I got a ticket for no registration ($70.50) because apparently the last time I cleaned it out, I forgot to put the registration back in the glove box.
I run about 3K in 5th goin 100-105 but it seems to run outta breath (there was one time a downhill got me up to 3200 and I held that speed on the flat- 115 MPH)

Towing it was happiest at 70 with the non gated Banks turbo....
Normally though, I seldom exceed 60mph with normal cruising at 55.... Speed limit around here for the most part is 50 anyhow...

I have a question, ok my old 86 that i sold to my buddy, it was a base model truck, had the 6.9 and had that rubber mat floor, well my new 86 is a xlt lariat, had carpet floors, and the thing seems so dang louder then my lariat? why is it because of the carpet or what? i cant figure it out, mine so quite you cant hardly hear it inside the cab the only thing you here is the rattle, his sounds like a gasser inside and out why is there so much difference?

My deal is that at 70+ it pretty much sounds like the truck is coming apart, and around 80 it begins to feel like it. But the way you guys are saying, that's normal. I think I may end up trying to stay with the speed limit though. Might save some money like that...

That carpet is about an inch thick if you count all the layers. Yes, lariat trucks had lots of goodies in them.

You can't hear my engine at all bombing along in overdrive. Just a faint drone when you call for power. Drop to 3rd and then you can hear some rattle.

I do 65-70 here in SoCal (in the slow lane!) and get 13mpg mixed city/freeway, 65 mph when towing my 10k 5'r and I get 9mpg
