Ford 6.9 IDI sat for 25 years, 72k kms but has issues.

Thanks Fixall I read about that but definitely a HUGELY important step. In my repair manual it says another way is to die a string around the valve stem but that seems like a recipe for disaster.

So I noticed air bubbles at the head gasket, I'm guessing it's time to take them off! They can be done without pulling the engine?

They can be done without pulling the engine, but it gets tight. I'd invest in a set of ARP studs to put everything back together with.

IMO,
you would be wise to do what im currently doing.
im having another set of heads re-done
with new guides, and a valve job.
i also bought new exhaust valves.
arp head studs,
new lifters,
a gasket set(coughBILLcough) LOL
while im there, ill be installing a typ4 cam, FTFOI
you should upgrade to 7.3 rockers if you can (i may have a spare set)
i already have new injectors and IP.
and then i can slap on my bran newly rebuilt 093 with a WW2 ;Sweet

Hey IDIot thanks for the advice. How much do you think you'll have into all those upgrades you are doing at the end of it? I keep on hearing about the arp head studs, are the stock ones no good?

I would like to upgrade to the 7.3 rockers, are you looking to sell?

I will make the call on how far I get into this when I pull the heads, why are you doing so much to yours IDIot? High milage and wore out, or performance / relaibility?

Read into the head studs and they definitely seem like the way to go but man do they want a pretty penny for a set.

im going for performance and longevity.

this is a 100k stock turbo engine.
but i beat the hell out of her.

this is my daily driver, built to haul 4 kids, 2 dogs, 2 adults, luggage/equipment
and pull a trailer.

i plan on going all over with this truck, so it needs to be done,
and im the type of guy that goes all out on any project i work on.

i have just about 2 grand into parts, not including the rebuilt turbo with a WW2, or the machine work on the heads.

its got a Bull Moose IP and Mister injectors.
im also having a bunch of stuff powder coated.

this is a custom truck, so i have to raise the bar.
im making some good coin on a side project, and dropping it all on my truck!

she outta rip when im done!!! but it has been an expensive endeavor.
with everything, excluding the price i GOT paid to take this truck, im right about 9k mark


as far as the rockers, i need to go look at them, give me a day or two.
working on my 25th day of the week. c'mon weekend!!!

wait till this winter. im gonna build THE baddest IDI this side of the milky way ;Sweet

could be!
picture 1 has a chipped valve, and a fubard seat on the intake.

i would say the same on the 3rd pic about seats.
kinda hard to tell!

have the heads mag'd and tested.

he only had one set,
but i am now exploring the option of 6.9 gaskets.
couple of threads about em'
id tell you where to look but i have to search it myself :D
