Factory Trailer brake controller harness

Does anyone know where I can get a pre made harness to plug a Tekonsha trailer brake controller that I can just plug into my '92 f350 without having to splice one together. Most of the ones listed for the truck are wrong, they come as a 6 prong plug and the factory connector on a 92/93 is a 4 prong
I can get a splice up harness with the 4 prong plug here but i just wanted to see if I could have a cleaner wire running down there .

go to any RV dealer or hitch dealer and they will have the pigtail to splice onto the controller that will plug directly into to plug under the middle of the dash.no cutting of the factory wires is needed

Not true. They have all kinds of harnesses for 94 and later 6 prong and for 91 and earlier, but to plug into the factory 4 prong, I have to get a universal harness and crimp it to the tekonsha piece, which is no big deal, but I just would like it to look cleaner there if possible and just buy a one piece harness that has the Tekonsha plug on one end and the 4 prong plug already on the other so there aren't 4 big yellow crimp connectors right there at my dash sticking out where the wire routes around.
But with all the trucks like mine out there I just can't imagine that they haven't made a proper harness somewhere out there.

Robert, I actually despise those butt-connectors in their "ready-to-use" form - I quite often end up cutting the plastic off and using just the metal sleeve inside, then heatshrink over the connection and tape the four wires together - it can look rather nice if you're willing to put some time into it, and don't cut up a finger or two in the process...

solder and heat shrink tubing.every brake controller ive wired into trucks had to have the right plug spliced onto them.i havent seen a controller with a harness that plugs into it.if you can do it you can pop the wires out of the ford connector,get the ends off them and put them onto the controllers wires and snap them back into the ford connector.doing that will give you what your looking for.


even better,clip the plug off under the dash and use this

Yeah, good point, I end up cutting myself at least once per job and I don't need arthritis to help me with that, lol. But yeah, all connectors I see are insulated, so I have to use a razor to split them, hence the slice and dice action...

I can't find it under the dash. I have a '94 turbo idi.

IF ( big if) you have the factory tow package, you will find the plug pretty much dead center under the dash, a little toward the passenger side , just under the lip where the dash turns under. The plug will be facing to the side

Ok, I found the plug and my harness will work with it. How lucky is that?

Now the question is with the factory harness where does the blue wire for the trailer brake come out on the back of the truck? It has an aftermarket bumper on it with a 7 pin plug but the trailer brake part is not wired up.

Left frame rail, behind the last crossmember. At least this is where mine was.

Anybody try the Ford dealership for one of these plugs? I have the one that came with my truck in 1992, but no idea what the part number is. I've wired it to 2 different controllers now without issue.

94 with the trailer tow package will have a connector on the rear left frame rail. Unless somebody hacked it off.

Yes, left is driver-side frame rail. There should be a connector of some sort there, tho in my case some monkey had it removed and the whole wiring was totally ***** - I've since cut that mess off and hard-wired a 7-way trailer connector properly (heatshrink and electrical tape and wire loom), but it sure would be nice if the factory connector was still there.
