anyone familiar with aftermarket trailer brake controllers and setups?

I can't for the life of me think of any reason why you would need 2 7 pin connectors, and I'm pretty certain it did not come from the factory like that but if I'm mistaken please let me know. Pretty sure the controller in the cab is also broken, not really sure what to do with that

They make 7 pole flat blade connectors and 7 pin round pin connectors. The flat are rv standard connectors and the round pins are commonly used on 18 wheelers.

Besides trailers, they are also handy for use as general quick connnectors. No way of knowing what they are for without tracing some of the wiring.

Yep thats all aftermarket wiring, so start chasing.
I also have two 7 pin flat connectors. One in bed for my camper, one at my bumper for trailers. They're wired together though.

Wonder if they are both wired the same?

Use to be some dissagreement about which pin the brake controll wire went to. A lot of older guys wired it to the center pin instead of the correct one.

Some came from the factory wired that way, 08 tundra I know for sure was wired with the center brake.

got an answer from elsewhere- theres a good probability that the previous owner was using one of them for aux power on a bed mounted camper and using the other for trailer brakes. so one is hooked up to the 4 pin (i think) that came with the truck and then the other is just an aftermarket TBC

The brake controllers are pretty simple really. Usually 4 wires... V+, ground, brake input signal, blue wire output to trailer harness.

Had an interesting occurance last August hauling a heavy load on my Car Trailer. Stopped in Fruit Dale, ID to fuel up, then 95 into Oregon and down to Winnemucca, NV.
Couple looong grades, and the old 86 isn`t a speed demon.
I was feeling this sort of faint surging, took a bit to figure it out. noticed the Brake Control red light faintly coming on.
Some how the 4 ways are activating the Brake controller.

Guess I have never had the trailer and 4 ways on the same time.
That was interesting...something else for the to do list.

Best Brake Controller I had was the old Kelsy Hays. here is a
e-bay listing for one. Still have it on my 67 IHC. Had it Chrome plated back in the 60`s

I looked up 7 way trailer wiring and found more than 3 ways to do it?? No wonder trailer brakes seem to be messed up. I google it every time and usually end up switching a couple wires...lolol
