i did a stupid thing when i rebuilt my engine.

i did not pull the coolant plugs when i had these heads rebuilt.

something i know better to not do...atlas, here we are.

i need to use the rear drivers side coolant port for my temp sender,

to avoid me buying a pig tail extention for the temp sender.

the plug is the stock male square head.

best i could do is get a 17 mil 12 point socket on it, but it wants to "roll over"

they shoulda put a 1/2" square head on these stupid things.

whats the best way to extract this, in the vehicle....

not as much room now that the engine is installed.

You talking the 1/2" npt plug next to the pyro probe?
Try a plumbers basin wrench( used to tighten faucet)
to countertop.

thats what that is for.... ive had one of those for about 10 years and never used it! not the 90* one tho.

The industry does make a special socket designed just for the square head plugs like this. I have a set make by Craftsman and your welcome to use it. PM me if interested.
BTW there are no experts on this forum. I like to remember experts built the Titanic and an amatur carpenter built the Ark.

even with the head off the motor, those plugs do not come off easy. put some heat to it when you use the socket.

As tcat said, heat. Quickly make it red with oxy acetylene torch. Propane won't do it. Map gas might but make sure and shield flammables.
These plugs are sealed with no.1 permatex or equivalent. Good stuff when set up

Yeah, they drive those ******* plugs in really tight. Round it off and your gonna sweat getting it out.

Very simalar set to mine but mine are 1/2 inch drive. Its amazing how well they work.

This post was intended to make a 5 minute job into a 20 minute job
After reading your comments, I've decided not to attempt this, and just extend the pig tail wires.
Don't think its gonna change the look of the compartment.
I do not want to take the torch anywhere near this engine I spent this much time on

I'm not advocating pulling these plugs on that beautiful engine at this point. I'm strictly asking for knowledge.

Does an 8 pt socket and an impact work? Just rattling it until it breaks loose?
