What have you found to be improvements over the stock system?
I have a '94 7.3 factory turbo 7.3. Pump is stock, (AFAIK).

The system will need replacing soon. I don't mind getting dirty, so DIY is an option. But if the cost to do it myself, and get rust in my eyes is not less than having a shop fabricate and install, then why bother? Can/Do shops fabricate downpipies, or is that something you must buy?
Who has already shopped and found the best prices for a complete system with downpipe?

Michael, I can't speak for the down pipe, but a good shop sould be able to fab one up, or get the ATS upgrade.

As far as cost, I just went to my local NAPA and orded a 10' stick of 4" and the 4" tailpipe piece for the 97 strokers and a couple of stainless band clamps. The total bill was around 100 bucks.

Michael, you can check the Lady Moose album for ideas. There is a folder in there on my home made exhaust. Get an open element intake going too.

You need to get the ATS 3" turbo exhaust outlet or no matter what size downpipe and exhaust you put on it won't do much good

The first thing you need to do is upgrade the outlet on the turbo to 3" (from ATS) stock is about 2.25". Then do the exhaust and change the intake to open up the air in.

You can custom fab a downpipe if you are good, go for 3" into 4" exhaust pipe, leave it wide open, no cat or muffler..... best thing my truck ever got was that exhaust done to it...... If you purchased an exhaust system I bet you would be talking big bucks..... fine a local "truckpro" store, they should have all your band clamps and pipe that you would need......

Unrestricted exhaust needs a unrestricted intake to get full benifit.
Ram air setup would be nice.

I found a great muffler for the turbo trucks, it really lets the turbo sing but muffles most of the engine noise. I love it! I pulled off my stacks the other day (got sick of them, I'll never get the sound I want) and just put a dump off the muffler. If you have the windows open, the turbo is so loud it almost hurts your ears

I'll have to get the number, it's a Walker truck muffler. 4" in/out and straight through with a big expansion chamber in the middle.

I have a 4" resonator on mine, overall length is only 16" sounds great, turbo whistles great, exhaust has a bark to it when the pedal is to the metal and it almost sounds like a big rig jake brake when you downshift
