I think we calculated a loss of compression of like .15 without the glowplugs.

have you noticed any damage to things like air filters? I ask because a huntin buddy of mine has an OBS PSD w/ crapped out GPs, so he has to use Ether to start on cold mornings. He complains about how it tears up his K&N air filter (which I hate anyway, but thats another story) using ether

never had a problem with any filter. if he is burning his up, he's using too much. i've also started up many out of fuel big rigs by spraying through the intake hole over the years without issues. the guys who catch their air filters on fire are the ones who use too much ether.

makes sense TC, thx. Precision isn't this guys specialty, so yea I bet thats it (too much ether)

Just remember... your trying to get the either to light the diesel fuel. Your not trying to make the motor run on either. Expect to crank it a lot more than with glow plugs. You should get some heat from compression built up before you inject.

In all the ether posts I've read, none has mentioned what happened here. Just goes to show how powerful ether can be if used the wrong way.

update: ordered the Kats kit. Went to Napa as I like to try and spend my $$ local, and they looked at me like I spoke Chinese. He claimed they did not have access to Ether systems, even after calling their Denver warehouse.

WMO, Easternsurplus.net, boyce equipment, memphis equipment,and other military surplus placeshave ether injection kits that came off of military rigs. I picked mine up for $60. inlucdes everything but the can. Mine is simple. Just pop the spray tip off the can and the system on the truck has the pin that goes in its place. strap it in. Mine has a manual push button for whenever I need it.
