Nah I figured I'd take a plug into a shop here in town that has the equipment to make me up some custom studs to seal em up.
I suppose it would drop compression a little. How much who knows.
The glow plug threads are 10x1.0mm. You might try an allen(socket head) bolt to plug the hole if the threads are long enough on it, with maybe a small viton o'ring on it. The GP's have a tapered seat to seal against combustion pressure.

I have a Quick Start push button 12V 3cc system as backup on my truck.
Napa carries the canisters. Its really really refined ether. When i stuffed my truck in the freezer she lit off no problems and no ether knock either with 3cc.
Paid like 70 bucks for the kit, had a few canisters from a buddy that deals with old military stuff. Comes with a fogger to mist the ether.

thx. now does this system mist it into the intake pre-or post charge? I'm really trying to find one that I can have post intercooler and have the injector screwed into a bung on the piping. Problem with that is whatever ether system I get has to be able to be pressurized both directions. My reasoning for wanting to get the ether spray so close to the manifold is quicker startups. I want to feed the ether in quick, vs. have it take several cranks for the ether to make it's way thru all the piping, etc..

this can be either pre or post charge.
Its pressurized. The mister is threaded into my intake hat. i hit the key and tap the button and vroom... that is when the engine is together.

i've ethered at the intake opening for years. takes it a few cranks especially when you have an IC, but I figure at least I've gotten the oil moving.
I'm surprised the glowplug only gang hasn't dropped in with the bucket-o-tar and bag-o-feathers because ether was brought up.

As stated, old glow plugs will work fine, or have a machinist cut the taper seat and smooth shank on some 10x1.0 bolts. Shouldn't take more than an hour and a half to spin them out.

Yeah, that was going to be my 2 cents worth.. Just have him start with some bigger stock so you can have the "tips" for zero compression change, spin the threads & seat, and have enough meat left to make the hex heads.
However- I was going to say something else prior to that comment, just wanted to finish reading the thread... You know that I blend WMO right? You know that I run a homebrew water/**** system also, right? When I pulled my plugs a while back, there was not a speck of carbon on them. It's your truck and money and if you want a ether system, great.. But, why not just keep your glowplug system in good working order? You could always just install a cut out switch on the activation wire, so if your batteries were (God forbid) so low that your choice was between cycling the plugs or spinning that starter one last time, you could spritz it then.. Just something to consider.
Thx Bio. Yea I'm probably being overly cautious. I just keep thinking about the last plugs I had in there, how they carbon'd up so quickly on WMO blend and the $$ cost that mess caused me. A repeat or potential of that repeat keeps me up at night. Your suggestions above totally resonate and probably the way I shoudl look at it. I just don't know if I can stomach the thought of the risk of having to tear it back down again should my engine innards not be as clean as yours. Considering my next "mod" a lil compression drop probably would do me good, although I haven't figured out how I can test exactly how much it will drop w/o GPs. I smile everytime I'm running on WMO, realizing I'm not funding those OPEC bastages.

The loss of compression space is a non event. i would get some long allen set screws and use them IF they come in 1.0 thread.

have you noticed any damage to things like air filters? I ask because a huntin buddy of mine has an OBS PSD w/ crapped out GPs, so he has to use Ether to start on cold mornings. He complains about how it tears up his K&N air filter (which I hate anyway, but thats another story) using ether
