Can someone make sense of this? The truck ran for a long time like this but I imagine this will be an issue when I put the new engine in..

This is going to be a problem when I put the new engine in. Anyone have a part number or clever idea about how to make this work?

Also, what else do I need to do before I put the new (used) engine in

That's a common problem on these IDI's. The contacts get corroded, the two yellow wires go to the GP relay for battery power and pull hi current that melts the connector.. Clean the contacts best you can, HF has soft brass brushes like tooth brushes. Fasten the connector back together with a wire tie, just splice the two yellow wires together, but individually, by passing the connector. There is no new harnesses available, a junk yard may have a good one.

The engine that showed up is out of a van. Is this going to be a problem?

I see the drivers side exaust manifold is different..

The fuel tower is on the top of this engine too.

What am I looking at here??

Thanks guys!

The header on the oil cooler...the ends...are different on van or at least the filter end is LOL

If you installing an engine into a vehicle, you SHOULD rebuild the oil cooler with NEW O rings and gaskets so as to not have to fight with it later down the road in the truck...easier NOW than later...I made this suggestion to a member once who IIRC chose not to do so, only to have to do it in truck...much harder.

You will want to use the TRUCK oil cooler and rebuild it and install it if it's going into a truck..use van if going in a van LOL

Wiring can be dealt with or you can go to a pick n pull and get a replacement one to rebuild or what have you.

Well said, Al.

Hoping you have the correct F parts available, mr_smith. Including an F filter tower, to replace the filter head atop the E Engine.

One more point: The brackets that hold the rubber engine mounts are different. Just unbolt them from the block and exchange. We realized this too late when putting an F engine into my E. Engine got to come out again.

Oh, and X2 on the oil cooler rebuild. Found out about THAT once we got the engine started. Oil cooler no fun to pull and reinstall (in-frame) on the Es.

In all honesty with the shape that harness is in, i would just replace the yellow glowplug power wires entirely with either one bigger or two matching-single length wires.

Its a very common problem, and with the amount of oil and dirt under the hood if that much power arc'd in there it could catch fire.

The other wires in the harness - you can get a new connector for both ends or just clean it up.. Ill show you when i get home if i remember. That plastic is usually more brittle after being as old as it is and being heated up. I kept mine but bypassed the glowplug power, but when my engine rebuild is done i plan on replacing the connection

If your truck has a hard time starting or cuts out then the harness is loose - the IP gets the key-on signal here from red wire with green stripe IIRC. You can also splice this wire for adding an electric lift pump ;)

If you still have the old engine, switch all the parts that's different between the two including the oil cooler.
