I am in the process of installing a Banks Sidewinder Turbo Kit into my 1993 F250HD with the 7.3 IDI naturally aspirated Engine.

Having trouble getting the Banks Down Pipe from the Turbocharger Outlet to "clear" the Firewall at various points on its way down the Back of the Engine.

I have most everything fitting pretty well (It's a "very tight fit" on this Yr. Model of Truck), except that at the Rear side of the Down Pipe (about 12" or so down the Firewall), there is a "raised" Bump (about 2" dia.) protruding out from the Firewall surface and "hitting" the Down Pipe. I plan to take a large Bar and "smack" it with a Sledge Hammer to "push in" this "raised area of the Firewall, BUT I am concerned that there is a "reason" for this "Bump" being there (possibly to "clear" an Interior "Part"?) and I certainly don't want to "bang into anything" behind the Firewall in this area, when I use the Sledge Hammer.

It's quite a bit of work to get the Seat pulled out and the Carpet and Padding "pulled back," so I can make sure "what's there," BEFORE I start on it with the Hammer. I need to push/beat this "Bump" IN-ward about 1/2" - 3/4".......Does anyone know what might be up against/behind this "Bump?"......It would really save me some time, if someone can tell me what's there, before I have to take a lot of time, removing the seat/interior pieces/carpet out of the way, etc.....

Many of us have beat the sh** out of that with hammers.. Pry bars... Angry fists... The down pipe itself... To make it fit. Does it have a purpose? Maybe. Does my truck still drive down the road without it? Definitely.

Another possibility is that your body mounts are sagging and causing clearance issues. Like Nero said, it's common to have to take your frustrations out on your firewall in order to install a downpipe. Sometimes the pinch weld at the bottom will interfere too.
