Todays 15w40s dont sheer much. It may be a 15w35 after 9000 miles. Dont worry about sheer.

Just as others have mentioned, our engines love to drink rotella.
I switched over to delo years ago and that's what we've always used since. I get it at cal ranch for like 13 bucks a gallon, it's pretty high at auto parts stores.

I have run both Rotella 15w-40 and 10w-30 (clearance at Walmart).

My truck uses/leaks 3-4qts every 5k miles. I wil be trying Delo 15w-40 when my current stash of oil runs out.

You shouldn't have any issues running 15w-40, especially in California. Its been below zero up here overnight and single digits to low teens during the day. Even not plugged in my truck hasn't failed to start yet.

I run Delo 400. I only drink a quart every 2-3000 miles. Has anyone tried Rislone Ring Seal in their rigs?

I've been running the DELO 15W40 that Walmart sells in 2.5 gallon jugs for about $30. And, like noted above, the old IDI contaminates the oil with soot far faster than it wears it out. So, change often. I could probably stretch that out if I had a good bypass filter.

I change about every 3000 miles or so.

Any recommendations for good bypass filter?

My old motor used to drink rotella as well. I typically ran Delo or vavoline with minimal consumption.

I have used nothing but full synthetic since the mid seventies. When I got my IDI I first used Mobil 1 because I had it. I then went to the Walmart stuff then to Rotella T6 a few years ago. After a couple trips to SEMA asking about oil for flat tappet cams, I now use T6 in everything; no cats. And Walmart has it in 2.5 gal size. Oil is just about the cheapest item in total cost of operation. Don't cheap out.

BTW, I just started with a clean 93 turbo, clean cooler, and a normal filter. It took 13 quarts.

Mine see's very little miles and long sitting. Synthetic would be a waste for me. If I daily drove it I would probably switch to T6
