It seems the question Briankk asked was never answered fully. At least not to my satisfaction because I have the same question. Can the Rotella T1 straight 30 weight oil be used in a 93 idi turbo engine? My owners manual also states preferred oil is the straight 30. I would prefer to use a straight weight oil but the only option seems to be the Rottela which has a CF2 rating. Is anyone using this oil?
Thanks, Mike

Mind giving your reasoning for wanting straight 30wt? (Besides saying it's in the owners manual)

I have a turbo 7.3 IDI that weighs 9K# and an 01 PSD that weighs 11.4K#. Both run Shell Rotella T6, and PSD filters. Neither uses enough oil to notice.

If I change the oil and then drive nine thousand miles in six weeks, when should I change the oil again? This is not a hypothetical question. The IDI and PSD did Hot Rod Power Tours in 2018 and 2017 respectively. And both did about the same time and distance referenced above.

Regarding IDIs using excess amounts of Rotella T6. I acquired an 89 E350 for it's IDI in 2005, to put in my 84 E350. The van was then used constantly and criss-crossed the country several times; Florida, around Gaspe Peninsula Quebec, Vancouver Island.

In 2017 I had a small top end leak that ran oil down the head gasket. And the gasket blew bubbles. I needed the engine to be reliable for another decade, so I decided to not try to fix it, and got a reman 93 turbo replacement.

But, to the end, the 89 IDI never used enough oil to notice. The van caries 70 gallons of fuel - over a thousand miles. I would fill several times before I would check the oil level.

And the replacement just did 9K miles. And including turbo system leaks used about a gallon.

YMMV

Years ago (over 10) I purchased the larger 7.3 Powerstroke FL-1995 oil filter...I crawled under my 1988 F250 4x4 > > > and I didn't have the clearance at my frame to get it on...I was bummed.

Unless something was wrong(motor mount shot? Or clips sticking out?) you should definitely have been able to do it.
I've installed the FL-1995 filter on all my IDI rigs - 1988 F-250 4x4(two of them), 1992 F-250 4x4, 1993 F-250 4x4, 1987 F-350 2x4, along with a 1985 F-250 4x4 and a 1984 F-250 4x4 that others have.
Never had a problem, but it is a bit tight and hard to get to exactly the right angle.

In theroy a straight weight oil should stay in grade better than a multi viscosity oil. IIdont think falling out of grade is a problem at all. Are there any cj4 straight weight oils? I can't find any.

Chris142 Stated it pretty well. The temperature in my location stays warm enough to run straight 30 and it was recommended by Ford. So why not?

Not that I think it's needed, really, but Delo seems to offer a straight 30wt diesel oil. I'd check out your local farm supply store; that's where I could get it if I want it.
They also tend to sell 5-gallon buckets of stuff, along with "farm" oils that are cheap(and probably no worse than name-brand stuff). We have "harvest king" brand, which seems to be decent for stuff.

No.its designed for 2 stroke Detroit diesels only. It does not have the correct additives for a 4 stroke diesel.

Last I heard , 2 strokes were harder working and had pretty much the same internal components and materials. I think you will be ok.
