i have a 1993 7.3 IDI F250HD I bought new and always used the FL-784 Oil FIlters. I have gone to the Baldwin # B134 Filter about 1 yr. ago, but have been looking into the Baldwin # B7039 Filter, as it has finer filtration and is about 2" taller (i.e., more Oil capacity).
Is anyone running the Baldwin # B7039 Filter on their 1993 7.3 IDI naturally aspirated Engine?....Any issues, or concerns?

I have not used the Baldwin filter specifically, but the Motorcraft FL1995 and Napa 1734 filters, which cross reference as the same.

They are OEM size for the 7.3 Powerstroke (1994.5-2003)

This size is what I currently use, and I recommend it. It holds one extra quart, so fill to 11 instead of 10.

When it comes to filters, Baldwin has been known in the heavy duty field as being the cheapest filters out there.

I did a bit of homework to kind of back this up;
B7039 has a micron rating 27 absolute.

Compared to other filters;

Motorcraft F4TZ-6731-B has a micron rating at 18 with 98% efficiency

Fleetguard LF3630 has a 24 micron at 98% efficiency.

I have asked a few fleet managers on whose equipment I work on why they go with Baldwin, and it is because they are the cheapest filter. We see less issues with fleets who change their fluids and filters on time per mileage or hour based intervals.

Long story short... You'll probably be fine running it. For those of us who are bad about changing on time... I run a finer micron filter. Plus I can get them in bulk for dirt cheap at work.

Check front diff clearance.
I want to say the PSD filter didn't fit the '90 IDI until after the D60 swap.

I'm running a PSD oil filter on my 1985 with a 7.3. I have no issues other than the tight crossmember clearance when I'm changing the filter.

Donaldosn P550371 is what I've been using. Efficiency at 99% is 17 micron and the price is okay.

I run the amsoil dual bypass filter. Oil analysis comes back as excellent and can easily run 10,000 miles. Mounted the filter head on the frame rail. Super easy access to the filters.

How often are you replacing the bypass filter? I would imagine an IDI would fill it with soot pretty quick.

The Amsoil by pass filter , filters down to 2 micron.
Not all the oil goes through it on every pass. Only takes a small percentage .
It comes in 3 sizes, BP 90, 100 and 110.
Well worth it if you keep your vehicles for the long haul.

I haven't seen many fleets use bypass filters. The ones I have typically have better running fleets. Mind you, it isn't a 'throw it on and trust it's working' system, you still need to send out oil analysis samples every 6ish months to make sure the packages in the oil are good, and no contaminates show up.

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
Well back few yrs ago @icanfixall (haven't seen him on here in a while) started a thread
"Frantz Bypass Oil Filter" and started some interesting info etc etc. Some other older threads have talked about different TP Bypass Oil filters.

I haven't been driving Bessie much lately but still been driving her. Got to do some "check her out stuff" cause got 2 cyl with low compression & blow-by.

Anyway several yrs ago I (found on Fleabay) rigged up 2 TP Filters in series on her. One a Triple RRR & other a Frantz. Don't know if they do any good but was interesting while I figured out how to do it, as well as finding right size TP, & learning about them..
Also run the PS spin on oil filter.

I’ve been running that Baldwin filter the last two changes since the fl-1995 went up in price. No issues that I can tell, fuel pressure seems the same, etc. I run a Baldwin fuel filter as well.
