Hey All,

I am running WVO on my 89 7.3 Idi.

My System:
Two tank system, pre heated pickup in tank, heater WVO filter head, plate heat exchanger. Oil well filtered, pressured to 7psi and filtered separately.

Two noticeable issues are occurring.

When I switch from diesel to WVO the engine gets noticeably louder, why is this occurring? Annoyingly loud hard to hear myself think.

Under load going up hill if I accelerate the engine bogs down and I get black smoke out of the exhaust. This happens a little while running on Diesel, but noticeably and significantly less. Why is this happening?

All help much appreciated.

Seriously
Sounds like you have a media issue, what's
"Well filtered"?

What’s a media issue? I heard that slight air intrusion in the veggie side side can lead to louder operation. Im sure it’s not a filtering issue

What filtration ( media ) are you using?
Have you looked at the wmo/alternative fuels threads here?

So you are thinking that improperly filter oil will create these symptoms? Can you explain why please?
Most of us alternate fuel junkies on here do waste motor oil..... I'm not sure anyone does the WVO..... look up PA Biodiesel. The guy that owns that used to be a regular on here(he hasn't logged in in about 2yrs)and he does it all as well as sells the equipment for processing. He drives an IDI Ferd...... the other thing is that you're up north, Canada if I remember right, and you need to REALLY thin it with diesel, or it really might be best to wait a couple months until the daily temperature will accommodate a good flow of the sludge we abusively feed our engines. Good luck and keep us posted...... and yeah, @Clb drives a well pampered Unicorn truck that receives only the finest of fuel and service...... when his odometer turns 3,000 miles he will pull over on the interstate, if necessary, and change his oil......lol, im kidding..... but really, theres only a couple of us alternate fuel guys left on here.........

Had a guy hauling a 35' flatbed with a 5 series dodge from Idaho he was picking up a rare harvester project here...
He said that he lost a good 2 mpg with the garbage fuel made here...
Not to mention the extra $$$ paid for the privilege!

x2 on waiting for warmer summer temps, especially if you're up N in Canada and running straight WVO.

I checked out that PA Biodiesel website. It reads like something you would see on Alibaba. Is that guy in TX, ND, PA or China?

Sorry about the late reply. Hopefully the OP is still keeping an eye on this thread.

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
Back when I was running WVO I had a few folks that was following me, get where we going, and they asked me what was I burning.???
I always told them, I just pulled through McDonald’s and they must have had a fire going or something cause it was lots and lots of smoke smell like hamburgers and french fries. And that smoke must have stuck to me. Lol lol
And back through the years when I was running different stuff in BESSIE, heck, I even ran, Sagebrush, WMO, weeds out of the bar ditch, probably even wood chips, everything! LOL
