Basic 8's are getting to be old-school. 9/10 is actually more common, sometimes called a 8LL. More common in tandem axle trucks as the singles will often use a 2spd axle instead.

Unless you get an RTLO version, you might be disappointed at the parasitic loss thru an RTX or RTO. The L (low inertia) usually lose 65-75 HP from crank to diff. A non L trans will lose 95-105 HP

Why not us an Eaton Fuller 6 speed. More than enough transmission to handle anything you would do in a Pickup truck.
