Well all, I have around 180 miles on my motor now and my e4od seems to be running hotter than it did before the motor melt down. I'm up around 200 degrees all the time. I have a Banks electrical gage on the trans. My point and shoot thermoter says its around 150 degrees when my gage says its 200 degrees. Today I got on the freewayand was not in overdrive till I pushed the switch. It wouldn't go in no mater what I did. I got home and checked the tps and it was still at 1.02 volts. I tested it against my new batteries and they both showed 16.42 volts..... I tried this test on my other truck and it was just a bit lower but still higher than 12.5 volts. The motors were not running either. So I went out an bought another digital multi meter. My 2 truck batteries showed 12.42 volts... I checked my tps setting and it was .77 volts at idle....-cuss I have a really bad feeling I ruined my trans because my voltage to it from the tps was too low for a decent torque converter lockup. I reset it to 1.01 volts at idle and had 4.85 at wot. The test run was hotter than I thought it should have been, back up to 200 degrees around town. Still the piont and shoot said it was 155 degrees. I know the piont and shoot is correct because its used to check the thermostats in the boiled water on the stove. I sure hope Brian at BTS can ship me a trans because I can't risk driving to him like I planned to do. DAMN DAMN DAMN....

I think you may want to change out that TPS unit. On the diesel they should be set for 1.1 at idle IMHO, I think 1.2 is too high, and be no more than 4.3 at WOT. mine comes in at 3.8-3.9 WOT.
BTW, after the motor melted down, does you trans fluid still run through your rad, do you have an external cooler, did you change out the tranny fluid during the reinstall process??

The TPS is new with only the miles I have on the motor on it. I had several new TPS so I figured installing a new one wouldn't hurt anything. Gees..... The trans I'm running now is about 7 years old with about 180,000 miles on it. When I bought it from Jaspers it only cost me 1850.00 so you know that was some time ago. It has the upgraded supply and return lines to a remote trans cooler that came from Jaspers. They would only warranty it if I installed it that way. The fluid does not go thru the radiator at all, just the huge aux cooler and the lines to and from it are 3/8th inch. The fluid was never burned or smelly. I lost about 3 quarts when I dropped the trans to clearance the firewall for the very tight fitting Banks down pipe. Now I have plenty of room.:D The only other item that may have gone bad is the MLPS or a dirty connectors. I'm just wondering if the low tps setting for the 180 miles of driving has messed up my trans. It worked fine before and during the melt down.... Maybe its just time for it to be replaced with all the miles of heavy fast towing I've done with it. It really doesn't owe me anything. Just a bad time to have some problems...

any airflow over the surface of the item you're using the point-n-shoot reader will affect the readout. That being said, if you're confident on the accuracy of the reader, the next step is to change out the sensor and see how it reads again. As you know already, automotive gauges can be notoriously inaccurate and you may be seeing just that.

E4OD Update

Well, I called BTS today. Yes, they will ship me a trans for $3900.00....... Nov.27th...... Gees. Money can't buy a shorter delievery time either. But on the pluss side I at least know what the tps voltage of .77 volts will do to a 7 year old Jaspers E4OD and now so does everyone else. So What I did was pull the inspection cover to take a look at the torque converter that was painted blue from Jaspers years ago.... Now its rusty brown. That burned look. I know it was clean and blue when I installed the motor.... Any chance I could just install a new torque converter and the rest of the trans would be ok??? It has 180 miles on this motor but about 170,000 to 180,000 miles on the trans now. I guess it really doesn't owe me anything. It got me there and back many-o-times safely. I kinda had that little voice in the back of my head telling me my digital multi meter was off by around 2 volts when I checked it against my new batteries and took the truck for a test drive after the motor install. So now I have a better newer and much more expensive digital multi meter.....:D

Gary, you can easily check the calibration on the tranny guage.

You need a pot of water, a candy or meat thermometer and a stove.

Calibrate the candy/meat thermometer at 32*F (glass of ice water will do) then check it at 212*F (boiling water in pan will do.

Take pan of cool water and place the candy/meat thermometer in it and the probe for the electric tranny gauge (you'll have to set the gauge up to be operational.)

Start warming the water on the stove slowly and record the temps between the thermometer and the probe until the water reaches boiling.

That's all there is to it and it will give you the piece of mind that the guage is accurate or tell you how far off it really is.

You could go with a new torque converter. But with the milage a rebuild is around the corner.180 k on a Jasper is good. They normally don't go that long.:D Flush the tranny and cooler real good.

I put a Ford reman unit in my truck at 125k it is a 1992...........don't waste your time with anything but a Ford reman.......3 year, 75000 miles good at any dealer anywhere..........it is a waste to do a year warranty.....12000 mile warranty. mine cost 2700 in Dec. 2006

My best friend is a Ford service manager..........these transmission are hardest to rebuild......and then you just get OEM parts.......a factory reman is all updated........worth the difference........
