Here's a random question, what weighs more the auto or manual. I 'd think auto?
Oh, yeah, gdhillon, the automatics will outweigh the manual choices, for sure. I understand that the E4OD is heaviest of all, at around 300 lbs with converter. Sure felt like it, as I wrestled it around.
As I saw when mine was partially pulled apart, the E4OD is darn near solid steel and stainless, all the way through.... just in a million parts. Not much airspace in between!
This pic is with just the OD clutch out... 3 more clutch packs (and other parts) to go. My problem may well be the forward planetary, which is at the very bottom of this pile.
By comparison, a manual is some gears, shafts, bearings, levers and synchros.... a fraction of this load of metal. A lot more airspace in its housing, too.
