Based upon the responses from my last post regarding a little fuel weeping from the external advance arm on my IP, I think it is time to make plans to swap out the IP this winter. I read through Mel's writeup and was slightly comforted by the fact that I should be able to remove and install the pump with the hard lines all attached. Keep in mind this is going into a van... great access until someone throws a turbo in the way, right? With a lot of 'stuff' out of the way, it will be a good time to chase down some oil leaks too.

Injection Pumps - This is going in a van. I really don't want to do this again any time soon, so here is my logic:
If I'm going to spend $350 for an ebay IP, might as well spend $450-$500 for an OFI pump that might have a bit more certainty to it.
Wait - If I'm going to spend $500, might as well spend the extra couple hundred and get a Moose the first time, right? Any reason NOT to get a Moose over a Baby Moose (for reference... non-WG Banks with nearly new BB injectors. Am seeing about 1.5 - 2 PSI cruising at 2200 RPM and 6-7 while pushing pretty good up a climb at 2500 RPM or so. 900-950 EGT.) My first priority is trying to maximize economy. The rig weighs about 8500 loaded and we don't need to tow. Have I answered my own question for the correct replacement pump? Sorry to beat a dead horse guys.

Has anyone compared/swapped a healthy stock pump for a Moose? I can certainly understand the increase in performance from a worn out IP to a moose but was just curious.

Oil Leaks - pretty sure I've got slobbery valve cover gaskets. I'm hoping that this is what is making the majority of my mess, but I can't be certain. Hopefully not head gaskets and hopefully not valley pan. What is the best way to get things cleaned up? Steam clean? Degrease and then steam clean? Keep in mind that this is a van... I guess I can always wash the inside of the doghouse after I get it all grimy. How about the valley pan? If I spray in that area do I risk getting water in around the grommet for the turbo oil return? Clean that up by hand after removing the IP?

The good news is that at least I don't have AC components in the way for all of this... that will be the next project this winter after I get the IP and oil leaks sorted.
