I have an 89 ford f250 extended cab diesel 4x4 auto sitting in the weeds with a bad body but the drivetrain is still good. I have a plan for a winter project to pull the body and put a crewcab and a short bed on Does anyone Know if the wheel base is the same? I'm thinking i'll probably have to do a custom body lift to make the bottom of the cab fit the frame rails. any response is good. I might be interesed in a short bed if anyone has one for sale

The easiest way to do this would be as you mentioned, lift blocks in the front of the cab. here are some cheap one's on EBAY This guy usually has 2 and 3 inch blocks also.
If you want to keep the cab at factory height you will have to channel the body over the frame.
I am looking for a good rust-free crew-cab to put on a regular cab frame, with a really short bed.
