Clicking

I changed out my glow plug controller and now all I hear is very fast clicking, did I put a wire on wrong or something, or is the controller shot? I am running new Berus. I was having a problem with my old controller, it would work sometimes and sometimes wouldn't click on the glow plugs, you could tell by the voltage drop.

Check your main engine harness connector over on the passenger side inner fender. see if the two large yellow wires have burned up the connector.

After it quits raining, hopefully soon I will go out and check the harness for corrosion or melted wires.

I think your referring to my old 85 wiring, well that trucks gone and now its for my 92.

the solenoid/controller clicks and it sounds like one of those timers you see when you take tests, you get what im saying?

The clicking stops when the truck starts, sometimes it clicks after the WTS light goes off and sometimes it stops clicking when the WTS goes out.

I will get my tester out and check the voltage at the big lugs, but idk how to use it, what settings do I use?

The 92 still should have the dreaded connector problem.

Everything on the passenger side goes to the starter solenoid, the only connector is on the driver side. I will go over everything again.

The wiring looks right.

The fast clicking is usually bad GPs, but if they are new then it could be one of the wires to the GPs.

You have a big red wire to the one big lug which could be an upgrade unless that's how it is on the newer trucks, I'm more familiar with two yellow wires as said earlier, and if those supply wire are bad or the connector is bad it can cause clicking.

Did your controller come with a new solenoid, checking voltage across the big lugs works only under load and tells you if the solenoid is good.

Lots of different kinds of meters, can you take a picture of the face or dial settings.

i had bought 8 new berus and had a bad one right out of the box, just because they are new doesn't mean they are all working. recommend check them out

The wire for the glow plugs go to the battery side of the solenoid or the key on side?

The GP wires hook onto the lower end of the wavy metal strip.

I got it figured out! It was a bad ground, the ground wire that grounds on the controller mount, was bad. Now I know there working because my voltage cause comes up when they click off. I am getting a humming sound though, im thinking its normal.

Yeah the hum is normal. I just put one of these on a 94 IDI not too long ago and it hummed too. But, more importantly, it worked!
