I have an aftermarket coolant gauge. I have to run the truck really hard to get temps above 160. Is this a fairly average temp? Truck is t19 3.55s banks power pack. I can see it being normal just wanted to ask.
The stat starts to open @192. If lightly loaded it should be near this. The stat is fully open @212. Its not uncommon for a working engine to hit 220-230.
But remeber, unloaded cruising is not "working the engine", especially if your timijg is good and the engine's not using a lot of fuel to maintain speed.
Temps should be in the 180-195 range and stay there. If it quickly climbs to 160(within 10 mins of driving) and stays there..chances are your gauge may be reading low.
If it's slow to climb and varies quite a bit... thermostat, most likely.
Hmm well it is a slow climb and then it is steady. Stock gauge looks normal ..... I mean it is within acceptable range. Ill have to see where the sender is mounted. Is there a way to check t stat see if its bad?
motorcraft thermostat only if you change it. I am a firm believer in oem solves problems, especially when it comes to thermostats. IMO it doesnt matter if it is a honda or a interantional oem thermostats make them happy.
