well after 6600 miles its burnt up again. hooked a trailer(empty by the way) to it today and it didn't want to work so it killed itself. really sad for as much work as were puting into this thing that it keeps dying. anyone got a zf5 or zf6 they have taking up space?

Is this the same transmission being rebuilt several times, or are you getting a new one each time?? What transmission number is this anyway?

Time to go looking for a ZF5 or downgrade to a C6, unless you have the money for a truly "built" E4, or at least one with all the 1997 upgrades.

Was the cooler replaced, flushed or anything like that when these trans are installed... something it killing them because trust me I beat on the Enterprise and the E4OD was just simply bullet proof for me. And I know Oldmisterbill had good luck with them and he hauled for a living.

Kinda thinkin the same thing. Sounds like it's either cooking itself due to poor cooling or poor rebuild.

I suspect we are talking about an E4OD.. If not please update all of us. Now... If its an E4OD you really need the biggest aux cooler you can find/fit in there. Flushing the system is very important. Otherwise you are pushing burned up crap back into the replacement trans. The BTS E4OD has an unbeadable warranty... Any hp... Any torque... No questions asked... They buildem fine. I can say mine has not given me any problems and when it shifts you better be ready cause you are moving forwards....

yes its an E4OD and this is the second since i've had it. it shifted bad when i got it and then a year later finally burned up. i've spent around $2400 on this thing and i know he rebuilds them good because he employs me i and see him rebuild others all the time. well i didn't know for one that there was the cooler in the radiator still hooked up because the lines went all over the place and looped back a couple times. i put a brand new cooler in it(30,000# rating) and it really helped when i disconnected my rad cooler and just had that but i think the damage was already done. it didn't slip after that though and ran fine for about two weeks.

this will be the second rebuild for me. we've been having problems like many of you have probably noticed. second TC, a couple solenoid packs, computer. warranty is going to cover it because and i quote, "burn it up and i'll fix it" what my tranny guy said to it when we were having lots of problems. and i didn't modify that at all and definitely haven't forgot it.

i would love to have one from BTS but they are so expensive!

How old is your rad? If its partially blocked, the bottom of it where the transmission cooler is will be getting fairly hot. I've got a recent quad core rad and under most conditions, the bottom where the cooler is located is cool to the touch.

well i'm sure its never been replaced after 220000 miles. i have anew one but hadn't had a chance to put it in yet. i know that had something to do with it since the engine temp gets pretty high too.

Not that it makes you feel much better at this point, but I think you found your problem. Hot engine = hot transmission when it comes to the OEM cooler in the rad. Thats why some shops advise running only a large auxiliary cooler, although even that is a controversial idea in some circles. Theres also the possibility of crud from the last blown tranny breaking loose and killing the new one (ford requires the use of an inline magnetic filter on the return line for all of their replacement transmission warranties).
