Of course. Many variables. Corey (Dieselcrawler) cooked his engine pulling a trailer. iirc, I think he said he wasn't much over 1150° and not for very long either:dunno
My question is "cooked" - how? What failed?
Did he have a coolant temp gauge? What was it reading?

I've personally done a few runs at 1150-1200 F pre-turbo(so hotter at the manifold) uphill with trailer in various trucks; never had an issue, but I was backing off when the coolant reached 235 or so.

Mine ovaled the middle cyls. 1100-1150 for 10 mins, 2nd gear at 2800-3000 rpm and a 12 mile 11% grade towing 14000 lbs.
"ovaled" the cylinders? How much? Which way?
Did it continue to run, just with blowby/low compression?

Also, coolant temps? Any ideas?

No idea on engine temp as I didn’t have an aftermarket gauge. It was getting up there on the factory gauge. Hovering around “L” in normal. Clutch fan locked up entire time.

The truck was still driven for another three weeks, till blow by got really bad. Compression test showed cyls 3,4,5,6 all around 225-275 psi, cyls 1,2,7,8 around 320-360.

I traded off the block to @tjsea and he rebuilt it. He may have better info on how bad they were.

The rings were worn very ******* the center cylinders. The bores had a bit of a ridge in them too. I can't remember the measurements on the cyls themselves. I do know the machine shop was able to clean them up with just a .020 overbore. She runs pretty well now in my black truck. I did do a few other upgrades though :)

Drove one night for almost an hour into a heavy headwind and constant heavy rain. Truck and trailer were both loaded. Basically WOT to maintain 60....egt was 1150-1200 pre turbo, cooling system actually kept up with the heavy rain, never got over 215. No increased oil consumption or blowby/starting issues for another 75k or so.
