Which setup does everybody prefer for these trucks? I have a 1990 f250 N/A with the e40d transmission. One of each of these kits popped up for sale near me and I wanna pull the trigger on one of them but having a hard time deciding which is a better setup. The ATS is the 093 kit both look to be in decent shape and came out of lower mile trucks according to the seller's. Or if I'm putting in that much work should I just go with an r&d kit and call it a day? Not trying to break any land speed records just wanna wake the old girl up a lil bit more than she already is.

Ats kits are pretty affordable and can do mild to moderate power on most stockish applications. I personally would recommend an ATS kit strictly for parts availability, it seems like the Banks kits are harder to get one off parts.
As for thr R&D turbo kit, I'm unsure how his setup is, but it kind of looks like a modified hypermax setup? Not sure, but whenever building things, I try to plan for future repairs and parts availability.

I just bought brand new banks turbo setup for 6.9IDI a month or so ago, so there's got to be support for at least the newer ones.

Publish the vendor for us please.
When I had the non gated 80's brick they told me that they had 1 "old guy" I'd need to talk to and he said they did not support the old idi stuff.
So maybe I got bunk information....

ATS stopped supporting IDI stuff before Banks did. I believe that it's just the older Banks stuff. The Banks site still has the last gen turbo kits for our trucks listed. It does say "limited quantity" so I'm not sure what that means.

Thanks for the input. The banks kit is definitely one of the older ones with the old style air box. Seller claims theres no play in the turbo and that it came off a low mileage truck. I contacted the seller with the ATS kit hoping he gets back to me. My guess with the new banks kit is it's probably old stock that once it's gone thay ain't making any more. I've seen the new ones listed online for a pretty penny and figured if I can score a nice "gently used" setup online I'd go for that first... new ATS kits must be un obtainable

ATS may have dropped support, but theres tons of third party support. My kit was 100% factory ATS parts minus a new aftermarket turbo. All works perfect. Well... Minus the fun slip fit that always fails... But IDIoit did a good fix for that.

In this case, the ATS would be the better way to go unless you HAVE to have a turbo right now and the ATS needs to be rebuilt. The 093 is basically the same as the one that was available from the factory. Like Nero said, there's A LOT of aftermarket support for those turbos. Plus the 093 has a wastegate which gives you better low RPM boost.

I just finished up installing a brand new from Banks, Banks turbo kit on my 93 idi. They have a some great prices on them sometimes. I only needed to contact them one as I was short one part, they had it and sent it to me. They did not mention not supporting it anymore. It seems to have made a huge difference in how it pulls but I have not towed heavy with it yet. >10k lbs. Was pretty easy to install, my only issue was getting the oil port setup on the block.

They probably don't produce very many at once. Maybe 5-10 a year at most.

Good to know about the older banks kit. Gonna let that one go. Really wanted that 093 but the seller never replied and it's not listed any longer so I missed out on that one. Does the 093 have a better downpipe than the factory turbo setup?

The 093 is the factory turbo, typically people use a custom down pipe, whether its the banks downpipe or they get something fancy like this;

I have the wastegate delete with the fancy downpipe and it works pretty well. I had the banks downpipe and had clearance issued between my zf and cab body. A little smoosh with a convincing deadblow made it fit.

Yes it does. It also has a 3" exhaust elbow while the Factory Turbo had a 2.75" exhaust elbow. Generally, the different sizes of elbows won't make a big difference, but the down pipe sure will.

My '85 F250 6.9 4 x 4 had a Banks kit put in in 2006. When the old engine went, the Banks kit was put on the new engine in 2007. Currently 54,000 miles on the Banks kit, 50,000 miles on the "new" engine and 272,000 on the truck. Still running strong.
