gotta have it 1 color.

today i welded in a piece of 2.5 box tubing on a cross member for my wishbone.
ran it so hot a ****** berry found its way into the threaded bung for the johnny joint.:backoff

had to order a 1"-14 tap -cuss

made a plate for fuel pump and regulator.
welded it to the frame.

need to buy a battery, but the 4D/8D batteries i can get local, are all top post.
no thank you.
i want studs for my cables.
once i get the battery, i can weld a tray together and get it in.

not much left to do on the list before the chassis and underneath gets preped and painted..
may use Laserjock's bedliner for underneath the body, or i may just POR 15 it...
first things first.
to get the truck 5' in the air, and remove axles.
then steam clean.
gathered steel pipe 3" and 6" to make saw horses.

re-strip and then start painting little things too.

bell housing on its way for the engine run stand,
thats next weeks project.
i have batteries, extra radiator, fuel pump, gauges, and all of the relevant material...
maybe get the engine fired up and ready to install ;Sweet

I did the underside of the cab in POR. It's a ton of work to clean and paint a frame. That's one of the few things I farmed out. I had it blasted at a place then I painted it. In hind sight I should have had them paint it but I probably wouldn't have been happy with it. Painting a frame sucks. It takes forever and you crawl on the ground. Not fun.

But you know all this....:D

had a deal for a 2000 excursion.
7500 for it 330k miles.

vin checked out,
no codes were pending.
fired it up, and it had a weak starter, cracked flex plate, and a bad converter or pump.

checked fluid, and no fluid on the supposed rebuilt trans.

go underneath, and the flex plate wobbled more than a drunken riot warrior.

constant howl from converter.

did a cont test, passed.
glow plugs, passed
trans, passed.
od worked like it was supposed to.

but it was a gutless dog.
all stock.
injectors and hpop could use replaced.

he wouldnt take the 6500 i tried to hand him.

so, im still looking, but the 87 will still move forward.

i feel the need for a vehicle that i dont have to work on.

but that decision eats up every single penny i have...

so, still on the market for a 99-00 excursion.

spending spree!!!
now that i have most of the fab work done on my truck,
and the 58 GMC is waiting on parts,
ive went ahead and started ordering lots of new parts for this thing.

new springs front and rear.
new blisten shocks,
new u bolts front and rear.
new rear shackles.
new door handles
new mirrors
i have all new seals, may order more window C channel.
new pop tester
new stud gun

i have been looking into converting to an OBS dash.
since my wing windows need work anyway.

things i need to order:
redhead steering box
new stinless flex lines.
straight SS brake line
new track bar, may build my own.

i need to order new brakes for the rear.
everything. shoes,hardware, wheel cylinders.

front brakes are new-ish.

i have most of the wiring
all of the fuel line and equipment

what else am i missing?

1 very important thing.... I don't know what it is but speaking from experience there will be something to bite you in the ass.

Just based on what I have gone through, I'd highly recommend you pull the hubs in the rear while you've got it down and look at the bearings. If you've got the brakes off its just a few minutes. Fresh seals are not a bad thing if you don't know when they were done. Same with the front. If you don't know when they were packed last do it while you are at it.

My strategy is to go system by system. How are your steering links other than the box?

You are changing brake lines etc.

Fuel lines check.

Check you u-joints etc.

Check the pinion on the rear diff while you are at it. I've been meaning to check my preloads with the axles out. Have to look up what it should be with the axles out. If you pull the axles, grab a couple gaskets. They are a couple bucks.

Change all the fluids axles, tcase, tranny etc.

What did you do for mirrors?

same style mirrors, but mine were a lill rusty,
wanted new ones.

front end was done a year ago.
everything but inner seals.
new bearings, new u joints, new steering.

rearend, i havnt messed with at all.
will most likely do the entire thing while its out.
i would like to convert it to disc.
but im not swapping axles.
