hell folks, 610 bucks shipped,
with all of the engineering done for you?
and when you think about the disc brake calipers, lines, and hardware,
its just easier to buy a kit.

i bolt it on, no researching, making up drawings, cutting brackets, scowering junkyards......

im completely for DIY, as you can see...
but this is one thing i do not wish to spend time on lol

I'm with you. If I were going to go that route, I'd want a kit. I can tell you from experience if you buy decent parts (whatever that means) you will have $250-300 in re-furbing the drum set-up. I know... I just did it. If $610 gets you a bolt on kit with parking brake sorted, and no screwing around with anything else, I won't say it's a bargain, but it is also not cost prohibitive if you are really after disk brakes. I may do it up the road but for now, keeping the rear brakes stock with hydroboost. I'll be waiting to see how this does for sure though. There are probably worse $300 upgrades you could do.

I love how a blown head gasket led to rear disc brakes! Sounds like something I would do. You have caught a case of the, "while I'm in there's".

It's inspiring to all of us! Thanks again for sharing.

Yeah "while I'm in there" is a *****. That's how I got from a blown brake line to frame off refurb. LOL

ive always had the mind set of making this a nice truck.
but where does the rabbit hole stop?
initially, after the head gasket, and head went i wanted to clean it up and paint the rest of the truck.
well thats where the "while im there" plays part, and reaks havoc on my bank account.
if i didnt go all out with the RSK, bumper, and engine compartment, i woulda been done!!!
but itll take a bit more time.
im hoping this weekend ill have the engine ready to fire up, and the underneath ready for paint!

i can start welding and grinding again!
got the truck out of the shop to pull the engine, and pull the bed.
so i can finish the inner fenders.
they need the pockets for the shock mounts welded up, and bolted to the frame.
cut weld and grind the top cowl lips for easier turbo install
finish the anti axle wrap device

also started the engine run stand tonight, got the engine mounted, but i ran out of steam.

I'm curious to see what your impression of it is once driving it and how it fits during the install.

I probably missed it. Which caliper option did you get?

gotta be better than the rear drum.

i dunno Brian.im more inclined to think a truck drum and shoe has got to be superior to a car caliper and pad......but i don't know.just my thinking.it will be interesting to hear about your results.

Those caddy calipers are larger than most car calipers. Someone on FSB did a clamping force/surface area comparison against the front dial passion calipers and the results weren't far off. Not sure if they'd be viable for heavy hauling, but IIRC, the heaviest thing the 6 door will see is his boat.
