Im not seeing any white smoke from the exhaust like a headgasket but I read they can blow through a cooling passage it seems to pressurise faster than any motor I have ever had witch worries me ....

I missed that the first time. I remember long ago being able to see and smell the exhaust coming out of the radiator fill tube on gas engines with blown head gaskets into a water jacket, or maybe in a coolant reservoir and there is a way to test for exhaust gasses in the coolant/anti-freeze to diagnose that but I've never done it. You might want to look that up!
Seems like it would be doing that LONG BEFORE 40 minutes of driving though! Like there is so much pressure from the detonation stroke in a cylinder that it would seem that it would start doing that within a few minutes.

Looks like you'll need to do some compression testing to rule out a head gasket issue and you can find topics on doing that.

Replaced my 86 f250 6.9 with alum rad and it'sbeen overheating. replaced everything from clutch fan to thermastate still hot. Finally looked at rad capthat came with new rad and it was 19 pounds! Put a 13 pound in and it'smuch better but still heats upclimbing a hill hauling a trailer. Only other thing I can think ofis the thermastate I replaced(motocraft) is not as good as good as oringinal? CHECK YOUR RADIATOR CAP!

Try taking the thermostat out completely, if the temp still rises might be something more serious. I’m still running the stock 3 core copper brass rad in my 73 1210 no overheating issues, 6.9 idi swapped.
And I tow all the time with it, sounds like it might just be a stuck t stat. Also I’ve been a mechanic for 20 years, it’s an easy place to start

I just looked up what an International 1210 is...
73 1210 no overheating issues, 6.9 idi swapped.
And I tow all the time with it,
I am curious about what it took to swap in the 6.9...if and when I take out my good 6.9 and put in a turboed 7.3 I will be looking for a home for the 6.9...what transmission is mated up to it...?

That International truck looks like a dandy place...it would solve my (percieved) problem of not having an older truck to do truck things that would not be suitable for my work truck...

I'll be darned if I am going to get a truck that has any computer crap...

I do not want AC, power windows, TPMS, automatic power locks...DEF, DPF, ...you get the idea...but 4X4 would be nice...

Anyway...if you have the time and wherewithall...could you start a thread and show what it took to graft that 6.9 into your 1210..?

Thanks...

From what my limited International experience tells me, you should be able to use whatever transmission you want. That is if it has a divorced transfer case like the few other Internationals I've seen had.

Hmm...thanks for the input @IDIBRONCO ...that opens up some possibilities...

So...from your experience...it could be concluded that the 'light' International 4X4 trucks have a 100% divorce rate...interesting...

Sorry...I could not help myself...blame it on @Jesus Freak....

He made me do it....

As an aside...it looks like good examples of that style truck are going for a pretty penny...from what I have seen so far...

Yes, but I've only seen 3 or 4 on the underside to look at the transfer case.

Somehow, I'm not surprised.
