I agree that the price is too high, and we really dont know the quality of the work and parts, but saying they are not as good as some offshore stuff......:dunno

Here is why I say the offshore heads are a better deal. I researched them for a long time before I bought them. Now after I had them I removed all the valves and springs and checked al the tollerances. I found the valve to guide loose but still within factory limits. I wanted a tighter fit so I had a new guide installed which required a valve reset but that was just to make sure the valves were still centered in the seats. They were but a grind was done as a matter of course. I did install new inconel exhaust valves too so they were a complete grind. Not just a touch up. Now as the heads being better than factory oem.. They are a much better head. They have a thicker deck thickness to them. The coolant passages are much better in the toght areas between the intake and exhaust. They are around 10 or 11 lbs heavier than the oem heads so much more metal in them. Better than oem... Yes is the short answer. These are the only heads that are being made for the 7.3 idi engines. Nothing is being made for the 6.9 but... These 6.9 and 7.3 heads are the same driling in all the locations. They are machined the same way too but.. Only the head bolt holes are smaller in the 6.9 heads but that can be inlarged to fit a 7.3 block with a 1/2 drive drill motor. Its already been done on a work bench. Can a 7.3 head be installed on a 6.9.. Sure can easily too. Just punch out the two plugs per head so they flow coolant thru the corners like the 6.9 does and use a 6.9 head gasket. We can punch out the plugs on the 7.3 heads and use a 6.9 head gasket on a 7.3 too. That also is done reciently too on the east coast. These are very versitale blocks and heads. Sadly we can't get any new blocks for the 6.9 or 7.3.. I have seen only one 7.3 block up for sale on ebay in the last 8 to 10 years of watching.. That was from a diesel tech school. Students were taught how to open them up and assemble them to test fire stage. So those threads were well used up. But it was a new unused engine still...

The price is a little high, but I saw the receipt from the machine shop. The shop that did them is a very reputable shop, and as he said they are all new valves with inconel exhaust valves. He had them redone for a truck he was working on that the heads needed dire attention on but after these were rebuilt he removed the truck's heads and found piston damage. The rust you see is very light from condensation in his shop. He is a very honest man.

Really the rust is not a problem... Its the high price the seller is asking. No matter what.. They just are not worth that much Possibliy there is that much labor and materials in it but it will not sell for that amount looking like that. A power wire brush cleaning up the "light rust" will cause them to sell easier. But to attempt a sale looking like that.. Nope... Nobody will pay that for a rusty rebuilt head no matter who and how honest the seller is. This is not to bash the seller at all and I'm pleased to know someone here knows the seller too. If I were to buy these I would have to measure the valve head recession on each valve in the head. Then all the valves would come out and the guides to valve demensions would be checked. Then the head thickness needs to be determined. Not very much can be milled off these heads and still be in spec. A new head is 4.795 to 4.805. See how tight these heads thickness is.... Lastly all the light rust must be taken off. Thats a lot of work at a premium price.
