1992 idi cab cracked!!

So ill go ahead and skip the narrative about me getting a whole new interior for the rig for $200 in great shape, and go to the part where I remove my old carpet...

I find THIS below the firewall and around the manual trans shifter (plate?)

Wondering what there is I can do about this. ATM a cab transplant is kind of out of the question.

My best plan so far is to first stop drill the cracks, then go buy a little flux core mig setup and lay a bead over them. maybe use a piece of metal over the big one.

Anyone have any ideas or encountered this before?

You should see my cab
Makes that look good. Plus I yanked the cab mounts through crossmenber and blew my front drove shaft tube apart.

Oh yeah, had a couple of '86 ext cabs that were far worse than that. We just used mig welders and welded up the cracks.

Weld it up grind smooth an put fiber glass or seam sealer over it so that it won't rust under coating somthing you need it to not rust that's the key. After that don't worry about it. Almost forgot not bondo it holds moisture an will cause more problems.

the whole plate that covers the transmission is all kinds of jacked up. Its not aligned correctly and one of the cracks appears to be going under it. Most of the screws are missing. Guess this is the downside of buying a truck with 300k

I am not sure what causes it; never seen it before

The cracks are also visible from under the truck but I dont see any other damage.

Mine was cracked, easy fix no big deal. Its very common, I also have some pics of the firewall cracks found after the front clip came off, it would sound like an aerosol can rolling around in the heater, welded them up and no more noise.
These cabs ,especially the crew cabs, will flex enough to break the windshield if it isnt perfectly centered in the opening.

I wonder if anyones windshield ever has broken?.....id think you would have to be doing some pretty crazy rock climbing for that to happen lol

Never broke one, but had one get loose because of the cab being broken up.

I had a bunch of cracks in my crewcab that I'm working on. I had them in the exact same spots you did and a bunch of additional. Weld them up and you are good to go. Or drill to stop and pop rivet patches over. Seam seal them for moisture.
