Looking to have an adapter plate made for my Ford ZF5 trans. Looking for the plate thickness that is needed. Ive seen 3/8,1/2, and 1" builds but unable to verify which was for a ZF6 rather then a ZF5. Anyone make there own, or can verify what thickness is needed?

I appreciate your help! But that just adds to my confusion. Ive seen 3/8 adapter plates that required the factory 7.3 IDI crank spacer. Your 1" does not. If anything, it should be opposite due your plate being twice as thick.

Dumb question, but were those plates that required the crank spacer meant for a ZF5 (or other manual transmission) or were they meant for an E4DOA?

To the best of my knowledge, on factory applications, the crank spacer was only used with the E4DOA and wasn't used with the C6 or any manual transmission...

I'll add my ZF5 adapter plate. I used this part from Destroked http://www.destroked.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=55 to install my '01 24V into my '92 F250. No crank spacer, stock 24V manual trans flywheel, the clutch is for a single mass flywheel conversion from the 7.3 IDI - bolted right to the Cummins flywheel; the pilot bearing came with the adapter plate. I've driven it 5K miles since I got it "finished" with no issues.

Flywheel shape (ring gear location) dictates adapter thickness. A flat backed flywheel would likely be 3/8". The NV4500 flywheel such as NFW7223 works with the 1" adapter similar to the stock adapter plate. That flywheel needs the pilot bored to fit a 17IDx47OD Ford pilot bearing. The Dodge bearing is 3/4"x1-3/4" (19x44.5)
