ATS 088 Custom Intake. Where to connect CDR tube?

I am sure this has been discussed but I have been searching for hours and cant find the answer to the question I have. I am building a custom intake for my 7.3IDI with ATS 088. My question is where do I need to install the CDR tube that is currently installed in the Factory ATS housing? Can it be installed directly into the intake tube between the air filter and the turbo inlet? I want to retain function of the CDR Valve and do not want to RDT it. Thanks

I would put it in between cold air & intake. If you have blow by...it is easier to service. Just a suggestion that worked well for me in the past. Otherwise send it out. with an briggs & stratton or Tecumseh air cleaner attached at the end of the hose. I have had bad experience with them lifting head gasket on #7 in the past.

Just bought a pickup with a suuuper plugged airfilter. It was sucking oil out the cdr valve... I built a RDT in a minute after that. I plan on plumbing it into the exhaust

Uh... They all do that, or at least it looks like it.

I have not seen a single IDI that /doesn't/ produce a massive stream of oily vapor through the cdr, wherever it is placed.

Actually, the whole point of the CDR is to /prevent/ creating a vacuum and sucking oil into the intake at high speeds where you might have a decent vacuum in the intake.
It's wide open at idle generally.

OP wise,
It must be installed pre-turbo, or you'll pressurize the crankcase and blow out the seals. With a turbo, just put it somewhere after the air filter(Unless you want an oil-bath air filter of course...:p ) and before the turbo.

One of the good things about having a turbo is that the oil vapor should get more evenly distributed between the cylinders, as opposed to having a hot spot near the rear.

Thanks for the suggestion. Im not sure how much blow by is too much but I do have a steady mist at idle. Very light though. I got the intake plumbed in and trying get to figure out a way to mount the cdr now. Probably going to have to fabricate a bracket to hold it and figure out a way to attach the intake side nipped to my intake tube since it's plastic and not sure that it will support the weight and vibration. Am planning on reusing the ats valve cover tube.

Thanks. I am going to place it in line between the filter and the turbo. I did check the operation of the cdr valve. Put a vacuum cleaner hose on one end and for a second had suction but then the air flow was cut off. Putting the hose on the other nipped did nothing to stop airflow. Does this mean it's working correctly? It wasn't all the oil either. Just a thin layer.

This system has been in the truck now for over a year and the truck has 180'000 on the clock with no internally replaced components so I'm pretty happy with what I found. I am using the "make your own" stuff from autozone. So far it seems to be working ok. For the time being I am using their biggest, highest flowing filter they have until I can get a 6637 or similar. With the new open air filter in there I have significantly more whistle from the turbo and my egt's have been lowered as well so that's a good thing. I can tell a noticeable difference in power off the line as well.

Hauling cows at 25,000# my egts got 1,150 and was rocking 6psi boost. Ive got some exhaust leaks preturbo to chase down though. I aslo have the waste gate disabled. I feel comfortable running 10-12psi without head studs

Yes sir. Will try to post a few pics when I get home this evening. As of right now I don't have a boost gauge but hopefully I will in the next few days. On the 088 turbo I am using a 2.5"-3.0" adapter off the turbo inlet to a 90 to 2- 6 inch pieces of piping to a 60 degree with the filter attached to that. Right now I have the intake tube zip tied to one of the injector lines and it seems to be very solid with no movement. So out of the turbo the pipe turns and runs right on top of the drivers side row of injector lines and then turns out a few inches behind the power steering pump pulley. May move the overflow reservoir and windshield washer bottle to the passenger side fender once I get the 6637 because I know I'm gonna have to have a LOT more space.

Here is a mock up of the bracket I am making for the cdr. I will mount this somewhere in the engine compartment and run a tube from here to a nipple on the intake tube. The other end will be attached to the ats tube on the valve cover.
