Why is it that people drive their trucks locally all the time, and do regular oil changes, but yet somehow driving for an extended period of time is somehow more risky? It's like an airplane. Taking off and landing is the worse most stressfull part. Cruising is easy on the hardware. Your more apt to have a problem turning corners, using your brakes, and shifting gears all the time just driving around in your neighborhood, then you are to just point it, get the RPM's up to where they need to be and hold them there. It's like when I take the Moose Truck to get it inspected, Jimmy always asks me "Where was the rally last year" I'll tell him "Bowling Green" and he will say "Did you use the brakes?" and I'll say. Yea. I think I used them once on an off ramp. He knows pulling the rear drums is pointless.
I was just debating this with my wife the other day (in our conversation as to why I think taking the family on a voyage to the IDI rally is a good idea)
She said "No way is your truck reliable enough to drive it 1800 miles and back" I told her if it's reliable enough to take 60 miles round trip a day to work and back, it's reliable enough to drive to IL. As long as the tires are good, fluids are fresh, I don't see why it's any different!
She still thinks using my vacation to fly to Hawaii is a better idea...
