I have a PTO winch already at my house, come down and take a look. I think it is a 10-12k lb model, would need to look, it is PTO.

put the winch on a hitch mount and then you dont have to worry about it in the weather you can keep it in a tool box or only take it out wen youll need it
unless you offroad a lot then you wont use it too much
plus without the winch mount it gives you a better approach angle

An 8k winch on a receiver tube is as good as 2 or 3 stationary winches. All you need is a receiver box, and power, wherever you need a winch. If you run 2ga welding cable down each frame rail, with connectors at the front, back, and bed front, you can winch from either end, or use it for loading cargo(or lifting with some simple gin poles).

Actually, I have a receiver box under the beam on The Packrat, just in case I need to reach farther, or static lift in close quarters. My plow mount on The Crossbreed is 2 tubes, so I could mount on either side.

Here are the pics I said I would post for you. This bumper is mean, and the winch is full hydraulic, including the controls. I need to start it to real in the cable, sorry about that being in the way. I took a pic of the door on top to so that accesses the cable, roller etc. Not sure what all the levers, and knobs do yet. I'll get it figured out though.

the rollers on the front are 15" wide by 7" high. That is just the rollers themselves, not what holds them in. The deal on the passnger side of the bumper is the shaft for the winch. Since it is hydraulic, it take up some space in that bumper.

Think its time for an update, I finally got the basic part done. Got a few more pieces to weld on and then it is off to be sprayed with bedliner. As for the winch that will come later when I have a little extra cash.
