Alright so I have a 7.3 Idi, don’t know the year of the motor because it was swapped but someone put a banks sidewinder on it. Few days ago I was driving home and heard what sounded like valve noise and my oil pressure dropped. I get out to look and it’s leaking oil. I check the dipstick and there’s way more oil in it than there once was. Maybe the oil filter is clogged?

Making oil usually indicates something besides oil is getting in the pan. You have two options, neither are good. Fuel or coolant. Drain your oil see what comes out. Also bar your engine over by hand, see if there is any mechanical resistance.

It’s also getting 6 mpg, don’t know if that has anything to do with it

MPG is unlikely to mean anything here, but it could mean fuel was leaking into the crankcase and that would explain all your symptoms. It sounds like you may be one of the unlucky few who has had their fuel pump diaphragm rupture and leak fuel into the crankcase. Check if your oil smells like diesel. Of course with a turbo you might have a headgasket issue but I'm leaning towards the fuel pump. Best of luck to ya'.

Edit: A clogged oil filter should have only resulted in the oil filter bypass mechanism opening to allow full flow of oil and I can't see that over filling the crankcase.

So the oil is black as can be so I’m leaning towards the head gasket being good, doesn’t smell like oil though

Did you drain the oil yet? Just because there is water in the oil doesnt mean it has mixed up yet. The water will be on the bottom of the pan, so first to come out. Another easy way to tell, check your rad level.

Otherwise yeah it could be your fuel lift pump diaphragm.

If it's coolant, you'll have what looks like a milkshake. Fuel will probably keep your oil black.

It most likely does.

There's your clue. It's not coolant.

Except for the fact that he was driving while he started having issues so it would be mixed.
Dylan. The black, overfilled oil means that there's fuel in it. That sure could explain your poor mileage. The fuel will thin out the oil so your lifters may not be working right which would explain the valve noise. The thin oil also explains your lack of oil pressure. It's probably your lift pump. You need to change that. You also need to change your oil. I would plan to do 2 oil changes. I would only drive a few miles (less than 50) before the second oil change. That short oil change interval will get the rest of the fuel out of the oil. You won't be able to get all of it out of, say, your lifters otherwise. Hopefully, you didn't drive far enough to damage the internals. You won't know that without tearing the engine apart and looking at the bearings. At that point, you might as well do at least an overhaul so I wouldn't worry about looking at your bearings. Just keep possible damage in mind. On the plus side, you will have a VERY clean engine, internally.
