Can't argue with charts and graphs, unless you got better charts and graphs. 88% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
I am very late to this but I can say with full confidence that these trucks are making a comeback as the aftermarket support grows. I work on them as a side gig outside of work, and I’m seeing more and more of them around town. I get that the majority of the members here are not on social media like some of the younger members are but idi’s are all over my feed. They may not be as popular as PowerStrokes or cummins’ but those platforms have had vast performance support from the get go and our idi’s have only just broken through the ice. You're dreaming.
30 years ago the IDI was the bees knees. There were a number of corporations that offered a host of aftermarket parts with next day availability. Ideas on power and economy were abuzz, and people were very active about the platform. Now you have a handful of niche vendors that have uncertain lead times, with only a few people are active about them. Most questions here are about repair and maintenance, not power/performance.
Yes, there will always be a community for them, as you've seen with your caddy. That community has flourished in the last decade as people became more familiar and frequently use the internet. Unfortunately, the number of IDI's on the road continue to decline every day. As newer and newer trucks come out with more and more power, these old dinosaurs are unfortunately going to become less and less common.
Argue it if you want, but 30 years ago IDI fords were on every corner of America. You want to make that claim now?
I lurk the FB groups and its even worse than the forum, although amusing watching @IDIoit stir people up+1
On the old "p i r a t e 4x4" ( R.I.P. )
We would flame that crap right outta you, cept for Tuesday, This was newbie freebie day.
Cuz "how do I fit 35" tires on my yota ?" EveryDAY gets old purty quickly.
But instant gratification it is.
Partly why forums are dieing....
they love to hate to see my 86 F250 on GM suspension, now... if they only knew it was getting a pontiac engine and a super t-10I lurk the FB groups and its even worse than the forum, although amusing watching @IDIoit stir people up
I put Alexa in my idi haha. I'm not coordinated enough to shift, dodge NJ drivers AND switch between Howard 100 and 101 when the 10 min commercial break begins, and then also field customer calls.Might be dreaming. Obviously there's not a IDI on every corner. I think there's a "WMO cult" growing since diesel prices aren't going anywhere. So yeah, I can see a bunch "mad max" IDIs chuffing over the next hill because we not giving up our trucks and we're not conceding to the norm of buying a new truck..... with wifi..... and Alexa...... and who cares what. I see that "oil burners" is a pretty great place for those types of old school truck guys to congregate. And the new truck guys can hang out at......say....... Starbucks......or.......idk.....
I know I've been searching through the site the last month or 2 before joining... Lots of great info. I think newbies like me start new posts, atleast my thought, because there is so much stuff changing.. like the e fuel pump question.. so many have went from quality units to junk in just a few years ya know.. or glow plugs, injectors stuff like that...just my thoughtJust my thoughts, couple years ago this was and still is the only active site ford the idis. i havent been as active since getting my new truck, but if i have usefull information i can provide to someone i will do it.
i was inactive for about 2-3 months and when i came back i noticed what Hacked told me "new members create a thread instead of using the search bar" and if you look that is completely true. same topics (return lines/caps Glowplugs starting/charging problems) so it would just flood the site with crap instead of good information, part of the reason why im not as active.
im sure all of us want to help eachother fix/figure out our truck problems but its fustrating when noobs cant help themselves to the good info that is already here. when i had my '91 i had fixed some problems and used info from this site and a haynes book to do it.
i do not know much info about the site politics but it is sad that the owner of the forums is not a leader, he sits back and does nothing like how a boss acts.
